On National Signing Day 2020, the Texas Longhorns added two new commits to their roster. They join 17 signees from the early signing period. The 2020 recruiting class ranks ninth overall. They are first in the Big XII Conference for the third year in a row. Number two Oklahoma does not have any five-stars in their 2020 recruiting class. Texas now has two following the commitment of defensive lineman Alfred Collins.
Alfred Collins
Collins played as a strongside defensive end at Cedar Creek in Bastrop and is touted as an excellent pass rusher. He capped off his high school career with an appearance in the All-American Bowl. He also earned his district’s defensive lineman of the year for two consecutive years (2019, 2018). At 6’5”, he went from 247lbs to his current 284lb frame in less than a year. “I think the weight gain helped me plow though people, make tackles,” Collins is ranked as the number eight overall player in Texas for 2020 and the number two strongside defensive end in the nation. A Longhorn athletics legacy, his mother Benita Pollard played basketball for Texas.
Kelvontay Dixon
Also signing with Texas is four-star Kelvontay Dixon, brother of Longhorn sophomore running back Keaontay Ingram, from Carthage. At 6’0″ 180lbs, Dixon plays wide receiver and may be a good option for the slot position at Texas. He is described by analyst Gabe Brooks as “dangerous after the catch” with a “strong combination of impressive burst and good long speed.” The track athlete has several sub-11.00 100-meter times.
While Tom Herman’s third recruiting class ranks number nine after two previous years of number three classes, it features two five-stars including the top running back in the nation (Bijan Robinson).
