Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators coaching staff have signed one of their top offensive linemen commits. Three-star offensive guard and Florida commit Richard Leonard has signed his NLI to the University of Florida. This is a big signing for the Gators as Leonard was being heavily recruited by Florida State and Miami. But, Mullen likes Leonard’s skillset and needs some offensive lineman as that’s Florida’s biggest weakness. This is the third offensive lineman Mullen will sign today. Notably, Leonard is one of four offensive linemen in Florida’s 2020 recruiting class with Issiah Walker, Gerald Mincey, and Jovens Janvier.
Who is Richard Leonard?
Leonard is a three-star offensive guard out of Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Florida. The Florida offensive guard commit is one of the top offensive guards in the country. However, he was a tough get for the Gators as Leonard was previously committed to Kentucky. Notably, Leonard signed with Florida over Georgia Tech, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Missouri, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington State.
First, on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Leonard is the 768th ranked recruit and the 46th ranked offensive guard in the country. Comparatively, on Rivals, Leonard is the 80th ranked recruit in Florida and the 14th ranked offensive guard in the country. In fact, the Gators have added a really solid offensive guard who could really make an impact in the future. Additionally, being an early enrollee, Leonard will get to Florida in January and learn the playbook quickly.
