It was a tale of two halves for the Florida Gators as they completely dominated the Vanderbilt Commodores 56-0. The first half was ugly, but Florida was still in control and leading by 14. In the second half, the Gators were too much for Vanderbilt to handle as they scored 42 points. Florida quarterback Kyle Trask had a shaky start but still put together a very good game. The Gators defense looked so much better than it did against Georgia. The defense had six sacks and forced three turnovers, including an 88-yard fumble recovery touchdown. This is the third shutout victory for the Florida Gators this season.
Vanderbilt Commodores
The Vanderbilt Commodores get their seventh loss of the season in an ugly beat down. Vanderbilt came into this game without their top two quarterbacks and it showed. Redshirt-junior Deuce Wallace had a rough game as he completed seven out of eighteen passes for 60 yards and an interception. Vanderbilt also had a tough time running the ball as they were held to 51 yards on 40 carries. Freshman running back Keyon Brooks led the Commodores in rushing with 34 yards on eleven carries. Senior Ke’Shawn Vaughn had 28 yards on 15 carries which is his worst this season. James Bostic led in receiving for the Commodores as he had two catches for 32 yards.
Florida Gators
The Florida Gators bounce back after their disappointing loss to Georgia with a blowout win. The Gators had 560 total yards of offense which is the most this season. Quarterback Kyle Trask had his ups and downs but overall had a solid game. Trask completed 25 out of 37 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. Trask also had a nine yard rushing touchdown in the first half. Redshirt-freshman Emory Jones went two of three for 47 yards and also had 34 rushing yards on five carries and three touchdowns. Trevon Grimes led Florida in receiving with four receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Kyle Pitts continues to impress as he had three catches for 59 yards and a touchdown. Lamical Perine had four catches for 28 yards and a score.
On defense, the Florida Gators were all over the field and owned the Vanderbilt offense. True freshman Mohamoud Diabate had a breakout game as he recorded three sacks including a strip sack that led to Jon Greenard’s fumble recovery touchdown. David Reese, Adam Shuler and Zachary Carter also recorded a sack in the win over Vanderbilt. Junior safety Donovan Stiner had two interceptions versus Vanderbilt. With those two picks, Stiner now leads Florida in interceptions with four. Linebacker James Houston IV leads the Gators in tackles with eight and 1.5 tackles for loss.
What’s Next?
The Florida Gators will be back on the road for the final SEC game of the season. The Florida Gators will travel to Columbia, Missouri to take on the Missouri Tigers. Mizzou embarrassed Florida 38-17 and the Gators will surely be looking for revenge. You can watch this game at 12pm EST on CBS.
