The Dan Mullen era at the University of Florida is off to a great start as the Gators are 6-1 on the season. The Gators have already won more games than all of last season and are riding a five-game winning streak. They head into their bye week with a lot of momentum on their side before taking on the Georgia Bulldogs. This is a week for the players to get healthy and work on their mechanics. This is also a week for coaches to hit the road and recruit some of their commits and targets. On 247 Sports, the Florida Gators currently have the 22nd ranked recruiting class in the country. Florida only has 15 commits in the class and have room for about ten more commits. Here is a look at the Florida Gators 2019 mock recruiting class.
Florida Gators 2019 Mock Recruiting Class
Quarterback: Jalon Jones
Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators got their quarterback commit over the summer in four-star QB Jalon Jones. The former Mississippi State commit left the Bulldogs once Mullen was hired at Florida and committed to the Gators. Jones is very solid to the Florida Gators and has not visited any other schools since he committed. He is the sixth ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country. The Virginia native was Florida’s top QB target in the 2019 recruiting cycle and landed him. Jones is a 6’4” 215 pound quarterback with solid arm strength and has been clocked running a 4.5 40 yard dash.
Running back: Nay’Quan Wright
Florida is expected to lose at least one running back after the season and will need to add another top back. One of their main targets is South Floridian Nay’Quan Wright. The Carol City running back has had a great senior season for the Chiefs and is a wanted man in Gainesville. Wright is a top 15 running back and a top 300 recruit in the 2019 recruiting class. The four-star running back took an official visit to Florida in the first game of the season and was also in Gainesville for the LSU game. Florida is also in on five-star running back Trey Sanders. The IMG running back has family ties to Florida as his brother is on the team but is leaning towards Alabama.
Wide Receiver: Dionte Marks, Ja’markis Weston, and Elijah Higgins
The Gators have had some nice production from their wide receivers like Van Jefferson and Freddie Swain. They are also expected to add a few more receivers for next season. Ja’markis Weston has been committed to the Gators since the previous coaching staff. He is expected to stay. Dionte Marks has been one of Florida’s most solid commits and says he isn’t interested in other programs. Marks has had a terrific senior season and is considered by many as one of the more underrated recruits in the class. Elijah Higgins would be a terrific get for the Gators as he’s a top 100 recruit. Florida is battling with Stanford for the Texas wide out. If Higgins goes west, Florida will likely recruit in-state wide receiver T.J. Jones harder.
Tight End: Keon Zipperer
The Florida Gators added some talented tight ends in the 2018 recruiting class and are after one of the top tight ends in the country. Under Amour All-American tight end Keon Zipperer has been a major target for the Gators and would be a big get. They are battling with the Miami Hurricanes for the Lakeland tight end. Zipperer has taken a few unofficial visits to Florida and will likely take an official visit to Florida later on in the recruiting process. Zipperer is a top five tight end and top 150 recruit in the 2019 recruiting class. Florida’s tight end coach Larry Scott is the primary recruiter for the in-state tight end.
OL: Wardrick Wilson, Ethan White, Riley Simonds, William Harrod, and Kamaar Bell
Florida’s offensive line has been pretty solid this season but will lose two or three of their stating offensive lineman. Wardrick Wilson is a four-star offensive lineman that has been committed to the Gators for over a year and is still learning the game. Ethan White is a huge offensive lineman that plays with a nasty attitude. Riley Simonds was a nice get for the Florida Gators as they stole him from the Virginia Tech Hokies. William Harrod is the highest ranked offensive lineman committed to the Gators and should stay loyal to his commitment. Kamaar Bell is one of Florida’s top offensive lineman targets and visited the Gators when they played against LSU. One offensive lineman to watch for is Under Armour All-American Deyavie Hammond. The Lakeland lineman has done a good job of slimming down which has made the Gators give him a closer look.
Defensive Tackle: Jaelin Humphries
One of the top commits for the Florida Gators is Jaelin Humphries. The four-star defensive tackle committed to the Gators last summer. Humphries picked the Florida Gators over the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Florida Gators will lose two defensive tackles after this season in Adam Shuler and Khairi Clark. Humphries is the 12th ranked defensive tackle and a top 150 recruit in the 2019 recruiting class. Humphries is expected to be the only defensive tackle in the class and has not waivered on his commitment. The Georgia native was a big commitment for the Gators and could have a bright future at Florida.
Defensive Ends: Lloyd Summerall and Quashon Fuller
Another Lakeland recruit that the Florida Gators are very high on is Lloyd Summerall. The four-star defensive end is one of Florida’s top recruits on the board. The in-state defensive end has received over 30 offers including, Florida, Miami and Florida State. The Gators coaching staff feels pretty confident that they can land both Lakeland recruits in Keon Zipperer and Lloyd Summerall. Another defensive end that could end up in the Gators class is Florida State commit Quashon Fuller. The four-star defensive end doesn’t seem very solid to the Noles and is still open to taking other trips. Florida might be able to flip him with the season they are having and the struggles FSU is having.
Linebackers: Diwun Black, Tyron Hooper, Jesiah Pierre, Mohamoud Diabate, and J.D. Bertrand
First year linebacker coach Christian Robinson deserves a praise as the Gators might wind up with the best linebacker class in the country. Diwun Black is one of the top commits in Florida’s class and is their top recruiter as well, working on getting other players. Tyron Hopper is an Army All-American and one of the most talented linebackers in the country. Jesiah Pierre was a former Miami commit before he flipped to Florida and could be a nice surprise in the class. Mohamoud Diabate was a huge get for the Gators and is also an Army All-American. J.D. Bertrand recently de-committed from Georgia and Florida is one of his potential top choices. If Florida lands Bertrand, the Gators linebacker will be set for the next four-five years.
Cornerbacks: Jaydon Hill, Chester Kimbrough and Kaiir Elam
Jaydon Hill is a four-star cornerback that is very solid to his commitment to the Florida Gators. He tore his ACL early his senior year but is still expected to be a big part of the Florida Gators 2019 recruiting class. Chester Kimbrough is a Louisiana recruit that picked the Florida Gators over the LSU Tigers. Kimbrough committed to the Gators in August and looks like he isn’t looking elsewhere. Under Armour All-American Kaiir Elam is the top defensive back on Florida’s board. He has family ties to the Florida Gators as his uncle, Matt Elam, played for the Gators. The Georgia Bulldogs are a threat to the Gators but Florida should be able to land Elam.
Safety: Trent Whittemore and Briton Allen
Another Florida commit that has been committed since the Jim McElwain era is Trent Whittemore. Whittemore has great size for a safety with a lot of room to grow. The three-star safety might be the only safety in the class but Florida might add another safety. One recruit that is really high on Florida is the IMG Academy safety Briton Allen. If the Gators start recruiting Allen harder, he should end up being a Florida Gator.
