Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators coaching staff have signed one of the top kickers in the country. Under Armour All-American and Florida commit Evan McPherson has signed his NLI to the University of Florida. This is a huge signing for the Gators as McPherson is one of the most highly rated high school kickers in the country. Adding a kicker the caliber of McPherson was a priority for Dan Mullen at Mississippi State and now at Florida. The Gators might need kickers since Eddy Pinero could forgo his redshirt-senior season for the draft. McPherson is the only special teamer expected to sign with the Gators in the 2018 recruiting class.
Who is Evan McPherson?
Evan McPherson is a three-star kicker out of Fort Payne High School in Fort Payne, Alabama. The Florida K commit is one of the kickers in the country. He is an Under Armour All-American and could be a weapon on the Gators offense. McPherson is one of the most highly touted kickers in the country due to his accuracy and leg strength. He could come in and start right away if Pinero does end up forgoing his redshirt-senior season. McPherson chose Florida over Miami, Mississippi State and Nebraska.
According to the 247 Sports Composite Rakings, McPherson is the 1393rd ranked recruit and the second ranked kicker in the country. According to Rivals, McPherson is the #1 ranked kicker in the country. The Gators have added a big time kicker who could really make an impact in the upcoming season. Even if Pinero returns to Florida, McPherson would get redshirted and get the start in the 2019 season.
Chris Sailer, who runs a kicking school associated with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, has worked with McPherson. “Evan is simply an outstanding kicker. A great athlete with a big time leg. Field goals are smooth and accurate off the ground, a major strength. Kickoffs are elite, D1 ready.”
