Troy running back Jordan Chunn has had one stellar career. The senior has left his mark on the program in his four seasons. Chunn is seeking to become the leading rusher in Troy history. He is currently in third place all time with 2,864 total rushing yards. He needs just under 600 more to pass DeWitt Betterson for first place in Trojan history. Chunn will likely have a NFL career as well.
Jordan Chunn Stellar Career Not Over Yet
He has been recognized time and again by Coach Neal Brown as a versatile back. Brown has stated on multiple occasions that, “Chunn will be an NFL running back.” Those are strong words to come from your head coach. The one factor that he has is his ability to power through opposing defenders and gain insurance yardage when called upon. On numerous situations, Troy will use him to effectively gain yards in a pivotal game situation. Being the starting running back is a tough task to handle in itself. In 2017, he has shared the backfield with Jamarius Henderson and Josh Anderson. This is Chunn’s final season in Troy. To continue his success, he has to remain healthy. He has dealt with injuries a few times this season. Yet he has overcome every single one and has come back much stronger.
The Race for First Place in Troy History
To pass Betterson for first place, injuries will have to be a non-factor. Chunn has to run his style of rushing, and continue to gain effective yards. The Trojans like to rely on him at least 20 times every game. The feat is definitely within reach given the style of offense that Troy is running. Their effective rushing attack with him sets up the pivotal passing attack from Brandon Silvers. Chunn has been a fan favorite since the beginning. Having a rapid fan base behind you and the team is something that the entire Trojan unit loves. Being a small town team gives them a better fan base than usual. But having a star running back contributes to that.
What he has accomplished so far in his senior season is phenomenal given his injuries. To still have 518 rushing yards is astounding. Given the fact that three backs are all receiving their fair share, Chunn still leads the team in rushing. To pass Betterson in rushing yards, he needs exactly 120 yards in each of the Trojans’ final five games. That feat isn’t out of reach, if he gets the ball enough. Coach Brown and the Troy offense love to hand it off to “MegaChunn”, as he is called around Troy.
His resiliency to effectively run the ball is unmatchable. Many believe Chunn is an under-rated back with a ton of NFL potential. Brown seems to think that same thought. Jordan did not play last week at Georgia State, as he wasn’t 100 percent confident he could play. But Brown said at his weekly press conference on Monday that “he will play this week if he feels confident.”
A Fresh Look in 2018
The Troy rushing game will be a new look in 2018 without him. The past four seasons have been on the upside in terms of running the ball for the Trojans. Chunn has more than done his part in the backfield for Troy.
