Jim McElwain Names Feleipe Franks as Florida’s Starting QB

Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain announced in his press conference on Wednesday that redshirt-freshman Feleipe Franks would be the starting quarterback against the Michigan Wolverines. Franks won the starting job after beating out Notre Dame Grad transfer, Malik Zaire, and 2016 starter, Luke Del Rio.

Most experts believed that Malik Zaire would win the starting job due to his athleticism and big game experience. While Zaire was the favorite to win the job, Franks was the leader heading into fall camp after a strong spring camp.

Feleipe Franks is a former four-star quarterback coming out of Wakulla High School in Crawfordville, Florida. Franks was a top five rated pro-style quarterback and an Army All-American. The highly touted QB committed to the Florida Gators on November 29th, shortly after he decommitted from LSU.

Feleipe Franks was one of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in the country coming out of high school. He is 6’6” and weighs around 240 pounds. He has a cannon for an arm and plays with a lot of confidence. Coming into Florida, Franks was extremely raw and needed a year to learn the playbook and how to play the position. That isn’t the case anymore. Franks has come a long way and seems to be ready for the 11th ranked Michigan Wolverines.
