We are only a few weeks away from the start of the 2017 college football season. As the upcoming season looms for LSU, a bit of light can be shed. The Tigers are hungry and ready to take back the SEC once and for all. First year head coach Ed Orgeron has his program in a great position to have a record season. The LSU Schedule Breakdown is here.
It all starts with the offense and the quarterback position. Danny Etling will likely be the starter for the Tigers. The 2017 schedule for LSU is relatively easy for the Tigers, and it all starts in Houston. Each month will be broken up into three parts and each game will be broken down.
LSU Schedule Breakdown
September
BYU (In Houston, Texas)
LSU scheduled this match-up with the Cougars a few seasons ago. Tiger fans have been patiently awaiting this game. The Bayou Bengals are loaded on both offense and defense. BYU has a quality quarterback in Tanner Mangum. The Tiger defense will prove to be a tad bit too much to handle as LSU will earn their first win of the season.
Chattanooga
The second game of the season for LSU brings a fairly easy match-up. FCS opponent Chattanooga will make their way to Baton Rouge attempting to upset the Tigers. Derrius Guice and the LSU offense will be a force to reckon with and run away with a win.
Mississippi State (In Starkville, Mississippi)
The annual conference match-up between these two foes has been many upsets in the history of the rivalry. For 2017, the Bulldogs have a talented quarterback in Nick Fitzgerald that can light a defense on fire. But State’s defense has a question mark around it entering the season. With that said, LSU will invade Starkville and steal their first SEC win.
Syracuse
The last time these two teams met, Leonard Fournette made history. In 2017, LSU will yet again have the edge in this game. Syracuse is known for their basketball program, so the Tigers will easily take this game.
Troy (Homecoming)
The Trojans had their best season in eight seasons last year. They finished 10-3 and almost beat Clemson. Troy returns a ton of talent on offense, led by quarterback Brandon Silvers. But they also lost four linebackers, which could be a cause for concern. Etling and the LSU offense will rack up yards and get the win on a Saturday night in Death Valley.
LSU Schedule Breakdown: Part Two
October
Florida (In Gainesville, Florida)
The Gators have had LSU’s number the past few seasons. Florida invaded Baton Rouge last year and stopped Guice at the one yard line and claimed the East. Not this time. With LSU having viable threats on offense in 2017, the Tigers will take this one, but close.
Auburn
Two words to describe Auburn for this season: Jarrett Stidham. The transfer quarterback from Baylor is sure to have a tremendous season and lead Auburn in the right direction. The Tigers have a lot of talent and could take down LSU yet again. Both teams played sloppy in last season’s match-up, but that won’t be the case this time. LSU will squeeze out a close win at home.
Ole Miss (In Oxford, Mississippi)
The Tigers travel to Oxford and will seek to whoop up on a broken Rebels team. We all know the downfall of what happened there, so we won’t get into that now. As for the game, Ole Miss will be unmatched here and LSU will leave with a victory.
LSU Schedule Breakdown: Part Three
November
Alabama (In Tuscaloosa, Alabama)
The game of all games. LSU hasn’t beaten Alabama since 2011. That will end in 2017. Though the Crimson Tide are stacked, LSU is as well. This game will be a battle of the trenches especially on the offensive line. The Tigers have the better offensive line for this season, and that will prove to be the difference.
Arkansas
The Razorbacks are a dumpster fire for 2017. There you go, it was said. What Bret Beilema has going in Fayetteville is nothing special. The Hogs will have a tough time handling LSU, especially their defense.
Tennessee (In Knoxville, Tennessee)
This game will be a trap game for LSU. The Vols may have lost Josh Dobbs, but what they have behind him is amazing. The backup quarterbacks for Tennessee could prove to be special and shock the SEC. LSU will come into this game overlooking the Vols and ultimately get upset on the road.
Texas A&M
Tiger fans remember the slaughtering last season. Guice ran all over the Aggies’ defense and will repeat that in 2017. The Aggies are unsettled at quarterback, and the Tigers’ defense will be too much to handle.
Overall Breakdown
For 2017, LSU will win the games they need to especially in conference play. The trap game against Tennessee will be their only loss, and the Tigers will return to SEC dominance and play for a conference championship. Possible College Football Playoff for LSU? That remains a mystery as the season gets closer.
