Troy Trojans quarterback Brandon Silvers elevated his game in 2016. The now-senior quarterback led the Trojans to an astounding 9-3 record under Head Coach Neal Brown in just his second season at the helm. With a variety of weapons on offense, Silvers was able to silence the critics and lead his team to a great season. Heading into 2017, Silvers has more to achieve.
Brandon Silvers Seeking Record Season for Troy
The amount of depth that Troy has on offense will be critical for Silvers this season. The senior will now have transfer running back Jamarius Henderson to hand the ball off to at times, but also gets Jordan Chunn back at starting running back. The one-two combination of Silvers and Chunn left defenses in shock last season as the duo left their mark on the Sun Belt Conference in 2016. In 2016, Silvers passed for 3,180 yards and 23 touchdowns, despite not playing in two games during the regular season. Silvers’ numbers are unbearable especially for a quarterback in the Sun Belt. The senior is now seeking to become the leader in passing yards at Troy, and can achieve that goal this season.
Brandon Silvers has been a fan favorite in Troy during his career, and there’s a big reason why. He consistently throws touchdowns and leads the Trojans to victory. Committing to play at a small school like Troy was the best choice Silvers could have made during his recruitment. Given that the outstanding quarterback did not have a ton of offers, Troy had to be the obvious choice. Coming into Troy in 2014, Silvers knew that he could contend for a starting job with former starting quarterback Corey Robinson. Once Robinson left in 2014, it was Silvers’ time to take the helm and lead Troy in the right direction.
The Trojans haven’t won the Sun Belt Conference title since 2010, but came so close in 2016. A couple of late season losses to Arkansas State, Texas State, and Georgia Southern left the Trojans out of reach for the conference title. This season, things will be different. What Neal Brown has done to turn this program around in Troy has national outlets highly looking at the Trojans to make a quality bowl game in 2017. All of that starts with Silvers and the offense. Pivotal throwing from Silvers will be key.
The ideal numbers for Silvers to have a record season would be for the senior to throw for at least 3,000 yards yet again, and possibly 25-30 touchdowns. If Silvers can keep his touchdown to interception ratio at a good number, his success will come easily. Though the Trojans have a tough road schedule, they should be able to achieve at least a 10-2 regular season record should they not slip up in conference play. Of the tough road schedule, Troy travels to Boise State on September 2 and to LSU on September 30.
Brandon Silvers is seeking to lead Troy to yet another great year, but the injury he suffered in the spring could be a factor. He had to miss the spring game due to the injury, but should be a full go for the season.
