The No. 15 Villanova Wildcats sent their Head Coach away knowing he will have at least one more game with the Wildcats. Villanova defeated the Delaware Blue Hens in a landslide 41-10 win. It was Andy Talley‘s last regular season game, ended his 32-season career as Head Coach of the Wildcats. Sophomore quarterback Zach Bednarczyk helped Talley end his regular season career with a win by throwing for four touchdowns. Villanova will now prepare for their FCS Playoff match-up which will come out later this week. Here is the LWOS Analysis of the Villanova win.
Breaking Down the Villanova Win Against Delaware
Andy Talley
The headline coming into the match-up was all about Andy Talley. He coached his final NCAA regular season game this week. Talley ends his collegiate coaching career at Villanova with a record of 229-136-1. While with Villanova, Talley was able to collect six conference championships and an infamous 2009 NCAA Championship win. The Wildcats are in a position to do this again this season. Villanova is currently 15th in the FCS Rankings and will likely move up a few spots after this convincing win.
Zach Bednarczyk
Bednarczyk had an incredible game this week. He completed 13 of 17 passes for 195 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He played a key role in the rushing game as well with 78 rushing yards on 13 carries. The offensive line did an excellent job of keeping pressure off of him all game, and he was only sacked once. Bednarczyk has noticeably matured as the season progressed and now as a very impactful role in the rushing attack for Villanova.
Villanova Rushing Offense
While Bednarczyk shined and threw four touchdowns, the rushing offense was able to set up each drive. Junior running back Matt Gudzak and Bednarczyk made up the majority of Villanova’s 227 rushing yards. Each had a 20+ yard run and Gudzak did find the endzone once. Javon White, who was surpassed on the depth chart as the season went on, scored the other touchdown in the game. As the Wildcats prepare for their FCS Playoff match-up, their opponent’s first priority must be to stop the Villanova rushing attack. Without doing this, it makes it very difficult to beat them.
Overall
This was a fitting way to end Talley’s regular season career with Villanova. Villanova was able to control the game very easily from beginning to end and the entire team executed perfectly. The Wildcats will have over a week to prepare for their Playoff match-up that will come out in the next few days.
