The ATP and WTA action resumes swiftly after the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. From March 17th to 29th, the 2026 Miami Open will be played. Jakub Mensik is the defending men’s champion, beating Novak Djokovic last year to announce himself on the world stage. Mensik, Australian Open winner Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner are among those on the ATP entry list, but six men withdrew.

Novak Djokovic was the most high-profile player to withdraw from the 2026 Miami Open. He played his first matches since the Australian Open in Indian Wells, ultimately losing to Jack Draper. Djokovic sustained a right shoulder injury during the tournament and has decided not to play in Miami. The physical issue is not believed to be serious, and the tennis legend should be back for the clay-court swing.
Holger Rune remains sidelined by a severe Achilles injury he suffered at last year’s event in Stockholm. It will probably be another while until the Dane returns to professional action. However, Rune recently released an Instagram post of him practicing and says he is feeling great 20 weeks after surgery on his Achilles.
Tallon Griekspoor was the third player to withdraw from the Miami Open. In the Dutchman’s semifinal triumph over Andrey Rublev at the Dubai Tennis Championships, he picked up a left hamstring problem and could not play in the final against Daniil Medvedev. The 29-year-old has not competed since, and he will miss the tournament in Florida.
Lorenzo Sonego was the fourth player to withdraw from the Miami Open. A few weeks ago, he announced his withdrawal from events in Santiago and Rio de Janeiro because of a wrist issue. That same injury prevented him from playing at the BNP Paribas Open, and he will now also miss the second part of the Sunshine Double. Hopefully, Sonego recovers for the start of the clay-court swing.
Jaume Munar and Shang Juncheng were the other two players to remove themselves from the entry list.
