The 2026 ATP Tour season begins anew in Brisbane, Australia with a pair of American players set to kick off day 1 main draw action. Here is your look at the matches to come.
Learner Tien vs Camilo Ugo Carabelli
Learner Tien has managed to score wins over big time players on tour, and his comfortable success at the ATP Next Gen Finals shows he’s ready to try to break into the top 15 in the coming months. At just 20 years old, he’s already showing signs of greatness, posting a 36-24 record in 2025. Carabelli is ranked in the top 50 himself and a 19-25 tour level record last season has pushed him near a career high ranking. Carabelli is strong at the Challenger Tour level but ATP consistency is still a work in progress. Given his strong preference for clay, he’s at a disadvantage here. Tien should begin the season strong. Prediction: Tien in 2 sets
Frances Tiafoe vs Aleksandar Vukic
Tiafoe’s 25 wins last season were his lowest total since 2019. The American remains talented but is a long way off from playing like a top 10 player. Notably, he didn’t win a match since losing at his home US Open in the third round and shut his season down after the Shanghai Masters. Taking on a home player in Vukic is a tricky matchup, however Vukic’s 17-31 record in 2025 points to his relatively pedestrian status on the tour. Tiafoe may struggle at times but should find his range eventually. Prediction: Tiafoe in 3 sets
