Davis Cup Predictions: Hungary vs Austria Including Marton Fucsovics vs Filip Misolic

The Fonix Arena in Debrecen will host Hungary’s Davis Cup tie against Austria. Marton Fucsovics and Fabian Marozsan are the host’s chosen singles players in their attempt to qualify for the Finals. We here at LWOT predict the tie’s five matches in this article, but which team do you think will win?

Davis Cup Predictions

Fabian Marozsan vs Jurij Rodionov

Head-to-head: Marozsan 1-0 Rodionov

Marozsan’s ceiling is much higher than Rodionov’s. The 25-year-old can be inconsistent and does not always utilize his full ability, as was seen in his US Open opening round loss to Ugo Blanchet a few weeks ago. Nonetheless, I would be very surprised if he does not defeat Rodionov in front of a home crowd.

Prediction: Marozsan in 2

Marton Fucsovics vs Filip Misolic

Head-to-head: First meeting

Misolic has not played in almost a month; his last appearance coming at the Winston-Salem Open. Fucsovics reached the final of that tournament, a run that included a win against the No. 2 seed Tallon Griekspoor. Although Fucsovics lost heavily in the US Open first round against Denis Shapovalov, his greater match sharpness might prove decisive.

Fabian Marozsan/Zsombor Piros vs Alexander Erler/Lucas Miedler

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is a challenging matchup to predict. Miedler is the most accomplished doubles player, ranked No. 28 and recently reaching the Winston-Salem Open final with Francisco Cabral. The Hungarians will hope Marozsan can translate his overall ability to the doubles court, which singles players often do in the Davis Cup. However, I slightly favor the Austrians in this contest.

Prediction: Erler/Miedler in 3

Fabian Marozsan vs Filip Misolic

Head-to-head: First meeting

Misolic will try to frustrate the powerful Marozsan and disrupt his rhythm. Achieving that is not impossible, and Marozsan can become frustrated on the court when he consistently misses. Staying solid in defense against a big hitter is a tough ask, though, and I think it will just prove beyond Misolic.

Prediction: Marozsan in 3

Marton Fucsovics vs Jurij Rodionov

Head-to-head: Fucsovics 3-0 Rodionov

If the tie were locked at 2-2, I would strongly favor Fucsovics. The 33-year-old is much more experienced in high-pressure situations, not just for his country, but at any tournament. Whether Rodionov possesses the same ability to rise to the occasion is more uncertain.

Prediction: Fucsovics in 2
