Former Grand Slam Finalists Dominate US Open Quarterfinals

The 2025 US Open women’s singles quarterfinals have delivered a spectacle unlike any in recent memory. For the first time in years, every single player in the last eight has already contested a Grand Slam final, making this one of the most accomplished fields in the tournament’s storied history.

World No. #1 and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka leads the charge with her raw power and relentless game, embodying the fight required to stay at the top.

Standing firmly in contention is the 2022 US Open champion and six-time Grand Slam winner, Iga Świątek, the clay-court queen who’s proven her hard-court chops. Her consistency and calm under pressure make her one of the sport’s most formidable competitors.

Adding extra shine to the line-up is Naomi Osaka, a four-time Slam winner whose comeback story after motherhood and time away from the game has captivated fans worldwide. Her straight-sets upset over Coco Gauff in the fourth round sent a message: Osaka’s still got it.

Jessica Pegula reached her first Grand Slam final at the 2024 US Open, falling to Sabalenka. Pegula’s steady baseline game and newfound aggression make her a crowd favourite at Arthur Ashe Stadium. At 31, she’s hitting her prime, and with the home crowd behind her, she’s ready to flip the script and snag her first Slam title.

A wave of Czech brilliance matches the American challenge. Karolína Muchová, Barbora Krejčíková, and Markéta Vondroušová have all fought their way into the last eight, piercingly amplifying the depth of talent from one of tennis’s most prolific nations. Each has already tasted the pressure of a major final, with Krejčíková a former French Open andWimbledon champion, Vondroušová a former Wimbledon winner, and Muchova contesting the championship match at Roland Garros two years ago, losing to Swiatek.

Rounding out the field is the surging 2025 Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova, who is blending power with newfound maturity, making her a serious contender. After coming so close at Wimbledon, Anisimova’s got her eyes locked on a maiden Slam title on home soil.

This quarterfinal line-up is star-studded not just in name but in achievement: eight Slam finalists, five Slam champions, and a combined 16 Major titles between them. For fans, it means no underdog surprises, only heavyweight clashes guaranteed to deliver tennis of the highest calibre.

As Flushing Meadows prepares for the quarterfinals, one thing is sure: the road to the 2025 US Open title runs through the most battle-tested field women’s tennis has seen in years.
