There was much excitement when Stefanos Tsitsipas began working with Goran Ivanisevic after the 2025 French Open. The Croatian enjoyed a highly successful period of over five years with Novak Djokovic and also had a brief spell with Elena Rybakina. However, the partnership between him and Tsitsipas has already broken down. The Greek No. 1 confirmed the news in a statement.
What Did Tsitsipas Say in his Statement?
The 2023 Australian Open runner-up’s announcement about Ivanisevic’s departure from his team was brief. He thanked the 2001 Wimbledon winner for his efforts during their time together and wished him nothing but the best in whatever he chooses to do next.
“Working with Goran Ivanisevic was a brief but intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey. I’m thankful for the time, effort, and energy he dedicated to me and my team. As we are now following our separate ways, I have only respect for Goran – not just for what he’s achieved in tennis, but also for who he is a person. I wish him nothing but the very best moving forward.”
What Might Have Caused the Split?
Although Tsitsipas was very respectful of Ivanisevic in his statement, the Croatian’s brutal comments about him a few weeks ago may have influenced their parting ways. Ivanisevic criticized Tsitsipas’s attitude, saying he talks a lot about wanting to reach the top but does not back that up in how he works. He also gave a scathing review of the former ATP Finals champion’s physical condition, saying he was in a better state at 53 with a bad knee.
Ivanisevic making those comments publicly stunned many. Giving an honest overview behind the scenes might have benefited Tsitsipas, but the end of their partnership felt inevitable after what Ivanisevic said for the world to read. Tsitsipas has not yet indicated who his next coach might be.
