Moyuka Uchijima Indian Wells

WTA Hamburg Day 1 Predictions Including Moyuka Uchijima vs Nastasja Schunk

The MSC Hamburg Ladies Open 2025, a WTA 250 tournament, begins on July 14 at the historic Am Rothenbaum tennis center in Hamburg, Germany. The field is strong at this outdoor clay court event and is headlined by top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance to the next round?

WTA Hamburg Day 1 Predictions

Mayar Sherif vs Louisa Chirico

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Mayar Sherif is a clay court specialist and is in fine form coming into this match. She reached the semifinals of the WTA 125 in Bastad and will be looking to make a deep run this week. Louisa Chirico also had a good run in Bastad, making the quarterfinals. However, she doesn’t have many wins at this level and will find it difficult against a player of Sherif’s calibre. I can see her stealing a set if she plays her best tennis, but the Egyptian player should find a way to win.
Prediction: Sherif in 3

Diane Parry vs Tara Wurth

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Diane Parry showed her quality at Wimbledon by reaching the third round as a qualifier, and that should have given her some confidence. Her 2025 season has been inconsistent, but she has a good game for clay and will be the heavy favourite to win this match. Tara Wurth is less experienced and plays an aggressive brand of tennis. She has yet to find the consistency, though and can be prone to making errors. I am going with the Frenchwoman in this one.
Prediction: Parry in 3

Moyuka Uchijima vs Nastasja Schunk

Head-to-Head: first meeting

#6 seed Moyuka Uchijima is the highest seed to feature on Day 1. Uchijima is on a five-match losing streak and has only won one match since her great run in Madrid in April. She needs some match wins badly to get her season back on track. If she plays close to her best, she can break this losing streak against the world No. 281, Nastasja Schunk, who has never won a match at this level. However, the German has gathered a lot of wins on clay at the ITF level, so it won’t be easy to beat her, especially on her home soil.
Prediction: Uchijima in 3
