Top seed Jannik Sinner continues his Wimbledon campaign alongside the British hope Jack Draper and rising Czech Tomas Machac. As always, we have predictions for every Day 4 match at Wimbledon.
Jannik Sinner vs Aleksandar Vukic
Ateet: World No.1 Jannik Sinner is off to a solid start as he beat compatriot Luca Nardi comfortably. Sinner shouldn’t face much difficulties against his second-round opponent, Aleksandar Vukic, who got his first main draw win of the season on grass in the first round. Vukic can play at a good level, but Sinner is in another league. Prediction: Sinner in 3
Damian: Vukic has some grass game, but it’s tough to see how his skillset will be enough against Sinner. You really need to make the Italian uncomfortable to beat him right now and this opponent is just not capable of doing that. Sinner should keep rolling through his first few rounds here, issues won’t start until much later into the event.
Prediction: Sinner in 3
Jack Draper vs Marin Cilic
Ateet: This is a great test for the British No.1 Jack Draper as Cilic will bring the heat on serve and ground strokes, and if Draper is not up for it, he might be looking towards a loss. However, I expect Draper to be at his best and face the challenge head-on. He has the defense to frustrate Cilic and extract errors. Prediction: Draper in 4
Damian: It’s an exciting matchup on paper, but we have to question if the actual encounter will be all that. Cilic still has flashes of brilliance at such a late stage of his career and on a less physical surface, maybe he can at least trouble one of the tournament favorites. But unless the expectations of the Brits get to him, Draper should be too strong right now.
Prediction: Draper in 4
Tommy Paul vs Sebastian Ofner
Ateet: Tommy Paul had an easy first-round encounter and won it quickly. Sebastian Ofner will pose a tougher challenge, but nothing that Paul can’t handle. There might be a tiebreak or two if Ofner serves well, but I expect the better player to come through in the end. Prediction: Paul in 4
Damian: Ofner reached the second round after just one set and a bit, taking advantage of Medjedovic injuring himself during the match. The Austrian has been in great form this season, although his own fitness was under a question mark recently again. Paul is just really solid and Ofner would have to redline for at least three sets to take him out.
Prediction: Paul in 4
Tomas Machac vs August Holmgren
Ateet: Damir Dzumhur can be a difficult opponent, but Tomas Machac played a great match and kept his opponent at bay at all times. He has an easier second-round match on paper and should get the job done without facing any difficulties. August Holmgren upset Quentin Halys in the first round and played like a top 50 player, but it would be a big shock if he beats Machac. Prediction: Machac in 4
Damian: Holmgren’s matches in the qualifying weren’t even that good, but he was battling from difficult positions in every round. But then he served out of his mind to dispatch Halys in straights. This very likely should be the end of the road with Machac looking fit again, but at this stage I can’t be sure the Dane doesn’t have more surprises left in store.
Prediction: Machac in 4
