WTA Wimbledon Best Bets Including Xinyu Wang vs Karolina Muchova

As the 2025 WTA Wimbledon Championships continue, so do our best bets. I’m back with more picks for the first round of Wimbledon. Let me know what you think of these matches and my picks in the comments. If you had picked a different way, tell me why.

WTA Wimbledon Open

McNally – Burrage: Time 12:00

H2H: 1-1

Caty McNally and Jodie Anna Burrage will continue their trend of meeting at Major tournaments. This will be their second meeting at Wimbledon, with Burrage taking the first in 2023. McNally has her victory over Burrage at the U.S. Open, so this is a solid chance for McNally to add a Wimbledon victory over her, as well. McNally and Burrage each have three Wimbledon appearances, with both of them having also had two first-round exits at those appearances. Where the two differ is in their third appearance; McNally has another qualification-round loss, but Burrage has a second-round loss.

Best Bet to Make

The books have this match extremely close. For all intents and purposes, they see this as a draw. That said, McNally is the official underdog by .13 at their best offerings. It makes sense that Burrage is the favorite since she has the head-to-head victory right here at Wimbledon. However, it’s worth noting that McNally has the better overall record on grass at 23-13 to Burrage’s 21-28 on the same. Burrage is also 2-4 on grass this year and 9-19 overall. I just don’t agree that someone who is 25-12 should be the underdog to someone with only nine wins on the year.

That being said, McNally winning is a value bet for sure.

Sonmez – Cristian: Time 12:00

H2H: 0-0

Zeynep Sonmez and Jacqueline Cristian have never met before. Wimbledon will mark the first meeting between the Turk and the Romanian. Sonmez has two prior Wimbledon appearances, but has never made it past qualification. Cristian has three appearances, and her best showing was a second-round exit in 2023. Cristian is also having a much better year. She has a tournament victory at Puerto Vallarta, and she finished runner-up at WTA Rabat to Maya Joint. Sonmez has two round-of-16 showings on the year, and a quarterfinal in Mérida.

Best Bet to Make

Sonmez is actually the favorite in this contest, and that largely stems from Cristian being atrocious on grass. Her career record is 2-11, but Sonmez is 14-10 on grass. This is even though Sonmez is 3-7 in her last ten matches, while Cristian is 6-4 with a runner-up performance in the same ten matches. Sonmez is there for the offering if you want to take her at 1.82, but I just don’t think you’re getting a very confident player. I don’t expect Cristian to go any further, but she’s playing well enough right now to beat Sonmez.

That being said, Cristian winning is a value bet for sure.

Muchova – Wang: Time 12:00

H2H: 2-0

Karolina Muchova and Xinyu Wang will collide for the third time in their careers at Wimbledon. The two have met twice before, including at the 2023 U.S. Open, which Muchova won in three sets. They also met in 2024 at the WTA Macau Tennis Masters; this time, Muchova had a straight-set victory. While Wang is coming off a three-set loss to Marketa Vondrousova in the final at WTA Berlin, Muchova is looking for her first tournament victory of the year.

Best Bet to Make

Wang is the favorite in this match, but it’s likely because she’s playing so well lately entering the match. Both ladies have had a similar year. Muchova is 13-9 overall, Wang is 16-15. They’re both pretty proficient on grass, but Wang has a slight edge at 22-12 to Muchova’s 20-14. There’s a lingering question around Muchova and her ability to finish when she’s around strong competition. Her performances at the United Cup, Indian Wells, and the Australian Open didn’t calm any of that talk down, either.

That being said, Wang winning is a value bet for sure.
