Jannik Sinner was inches close to getting his hands on the coveted silverware in Paris. His first French Open title, however, still remains a dream as he squandered three match points against Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth set. Alcaraz then sealed the match in a classic five-setter. For an athlete of any level a loss like this will have a certain impact on them for sometime. Recently, while talking to the media in Halle, the Italian admitted his feelings post the heartbreak.
Sinner answers ‘tough final’ questions in Halle
“Often. It happens. I don’t know how it will look in the future. I think that it is not the most important thing, but I nevertheless try to forget the negative things and see what I can do here (in Halle),” said the Italian when asked if he still mourned over the messing of three championship points.
He added, “I think that for me to play another tournament is positive, because every match is a new beginning, and I must be mentally ready to give my all on the court. Therefore, it is great I can be here in Halle. But yes, I had already a few sleepless nights, but I think every day it gets better. My family stand behind me, and my friends. That is the most important thing for me.” (All translations from Google.)
He admitted to having sleepless nights after the tragic loss. The Italian, however, also mentioned how important his family and friends have been in this time and have played the role of a constant support. Sinner also spoke about the positives of a new tournament as he will start his grass season with the Halle Open.
Sinner is the defending champion at the Halle Open and will start against a qualifier. The Italian will hope for a
positive grass season after he made good strides last year winning his maiden title on the surface in Halle. It will be interesting to see how relaxed or nervous the Italian will be when he walks out on court for the first time since his Alcaraz contest.
