The Terra Wortmann Open in Halle is one of two ATP 500 tournaments to be held on grass courts. Some of the greatest champions in men’s tennis have won this prestigious event, which is an important pit stop in the buildup to Wimbledon. Main draw action will commence on June 16.
Jannik Sinner headlines the 2025 edition. The World No. 1 and defending champion will play in his first tournament since the French Open final heartbreak. Sinner will be joined by home favorite Alexander Zverev, former finalists Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, and former Top 10 players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov in a strong lineup.
As many as 12 players ranked in the Top 30 will play. 2022 champion Hubert Hurkacz will be unseeded, showing the depth of the field. The tournament has named three wild cards for next week’s tournament, with two of those going to German players. So who are they?
Three Players Receive ATP Halle Wild Cards
The first wild card is 18-year-old Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian wunderkind will make his second appearance in Halle. Fonseca got a first taste of the grass-court swing last season. He competed in four tournaments and won a couple of matches in Surbiton and Nottingham, but he was knocked out in the first round in Halle. After his recent ranking surge and soaring popularity, Fonseca will be determined to get his first win in this tournament.
The second wild card has gone to Jan-Lennard Struff. This will be his 12th appearance in Halle. Struff is a one-time quarterfinalist, achieving this result when he played there last season. He has lost in the first round seven times.
The third wild card is Daniel Altmaier. Initially named among the alternates, Altmaier has received direct entry into the main draw. He has lost twice in qualifying in the past, and his two previous main draws resulted in first-round exits. Altmaier did not play in Halle last season.
