The second day in Hertogenbosch will feature last year’s runner-up, Bianca Andreescu, in action against qualifier Joanna Garland, alongside several other exciting matches that are first-time meetings, adding an air of uncertainty to the outcome. However, we at LWOT will analyse and offer our predictions on the likely outcome of every match on day 2 in Den Bosch. But who will advance at WTA Den Bosch?
WTA Den Bosch Day 2 Predictions
Maria Sakkari vs Anouk Koevermans
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Anouk Koevermans primarily participates in the Challenger Tour but received a wildcard for the Libema Open. Throughout her career, she has only played two matches on grass courts and lost both. She currently holds a 10-11 win-loss record for the season.
Her opponent, Maria Sakkari, has struggled to find her form this season, although she did achieve some success at the Madrid Open by winning three consecutive matches to reach the fourth round. Nonetheless, she was eliminated early in Rome and Paris and has struggled on grass courts, never having advanced to a final on that surface. Even with Sakkari’s recent struggles, she will advance past the world number 190 in straight sets.
Prediction: Sakkari in 2
Yanina Wickmayer vs Suzan Lamens
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
While Suzan Lamens has shown flashes of brilliance this season, grass is simply not her turf. She has played a mere seven matches on the green, winning just a solitary match, coincidentally against Bernarda Pera last year at this same event. Her opponent, Yanina Wickmayer, has won more matches on grass than on any other surface, and with her looking solid in the qualifiers, there should be only one outcome to this first meeting.
Prediction: Wickmayer in 2
Bianca Andreescu vs Joanna Garland
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Last year’s finalist, Bianca Andreescu, will be looking to go one further in this edition after losing last year’s championship match against Liudmila Samsonova despite being a set up. This is quite a tricky opener for her against Joanna Garland, who breezed through her qualifiers and has lost just three matches of her last 16. Expect the Taiwanese to make this difficult, but Andreescu should have too much firepower to prevent an upset.
Prediction: Andreescu in 2
