Carlos Alcaraz had never lost a Grand Slam final. However, at 3-5 0-40 down in the fourth set of the French Open, that record inevitably was slipping away.
That’s when the Spaniard flicked a switch and came up with his A-game to deny Sinner what would have been a monumental win. That denial gave Alcaraz an even greater championship win. With that, the Spaniard maintained his 100 percent record in Grand Slam finals. This was his fifth final and, consequently, his fifth Grand Slam win. Let’s take a look back at all his Grand Slam Final wins.
Alcaraz’s Grand Slam Triumphs
US Open 2022
His first Grand Slam Final came at the 2022 US Open, where he faced off against Casper Ruud. Alcaraz was coming off two back-to-back five-setters in his quarter-final against Sinner and semi-final against Tiafoe. Despite that, the Spaniard maintained his stamina to go the distance in a four-set finale against the Norwegian. The final score read 6-4 2-6 7-6 6-3.
Wimbledon 2023
Carlos Alcaraz entered the Wimbledon final as the No. 1 player in the world and was playing Novak Djokovic, who had not lost a match at Wimbledon since 2017. Alcaraz wasn’t tested throughout the tournament, as he was winning relatively comfortably in each match. The final would present its challenges as Djokovic knew the grass better than most. Alcaraz gained a 2-1 lead before Djokovic pushed it into a fifth set. It was a draining battle, and it took a serious break in the fifth set for the Spaniard to seal the deal. The final score read 1-6 7-6 6-1 3-6 6-4.
French Open 2024
His third Grand Slam win was a serious testament to his grit. 2-1 sets down against Jannik Sinner in the semi-final, Alcaraz was pushed to the wall before he fought back to win it in the deciding set. He came up against Alexander Zverev in the final, and he was once again 2-1 down and had to show all his grit to fight back. He came up with the goods when it mattered most and, in back-to-back matches, snatched victory after being down. The final score read 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2.
Wimbledon 2024
2024 Wimbledon saw Alcaraz unleash his best tennis in a Grand Slam event by far. He was clinically defeating his opponents and showed no mercy. The final saw a rematch of the 2023 final as the Spaniard faced Djokovic yet again. However, the form Alcaraz was in, he wasn’t going to let this one go deep. He displayed his A-game and won the crown in straight sets. The final score read 6-2 6-2 7-6.
French Open 2025
The latest of them all was an epic for the ages and will be close to Alcaraz’s heart forever. A dream finale between the two best in the sport, and the match turned out to be way more than worth the money spent to watch it.
Jannik Sinner looked invincible in the first two sets and quickly gained a 2-0 advantage. Alcaraz fought back in the third and claimed it before the Italian brought up three match points in the fourth set on Alcaraz’s serve. The Spaniard saved all three and claimed a dramatic fourth set. Alcaraz was a break ahead for most of the fifth set before the Italian pulled it back and pushed the match into a fifth-set tiebreaker. Alcaraz was simply unstoppable in that super tie break, as he raced to victory after giving his all in the previous three sets. The final score read 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 7-6 (10-2).
Fans will hope for another final rematch between the two at SW19 the following month. Will Alcaraz be able to maintain his record if that happens?
