Four second-round matches headline Day 3 of the WTA Bogota. Top seed Marie Bouzkova is among those who will take to the court for the second successive day. Who will reach the quarterfinals?
WTA Bogota Day 3 Predictions
Katarzyna Kawa vs Laura Pigossi
Head-to-head: Kawa 2-1 Pigossi
After a couple of hard-fought wins in qualifying, Kawa’s respite in her opening match in the main draw was against the inexperienced Colombian wild card, Mediorreal Arias. The Pole was simply too strong for the 18-year-old, with the crowd doing little to help her cause. But Kawa will have her hands full against the 2022 finalist, Laura Pigossi. The Brazilian is an altitude specialist and should be favored to progress.
Prediction: Pigossi in 3
Patricia Maria Tig vs Julieta Pareja
Head-to-head: first meeting
Tig lost a four-hour qualifying match but entered the main draw as a lucky loser. The late switch of an opponent threw Emiliana Arango off her game. Tig secured a priceless win over the Colombian to move within one match from the quarterfinals. Pareja dropped just two games to Sanchez Uribe in a clash between two 16-year-olds. The young American impressed in her first season on the ITF last season, and she’s not far from bridging the gap to the world’s Top 200.
Prediction: Pareja in 3
Selena Janicijevic vs Leolia Jeanjean
Head-to-head: Janicijevic 1-1 Jeanjean
Janicijevic was near-perfect in dismantling Sorribes Tormo 6-1 6-2. Not many people saw that coming, particularly how she outplayed the Spaniard. Jeanjean, for her part, picked up her fifth win from six matches on clay after seeing off Von Deichmann in straight sets. As the tournament reaches its halfway stage, fatigue could kick in. Jeanjean played the full tournament at the W60 Vacaria in Brazil this past week, and Janicijevic’s comprehensive opening victory might tilt the scales in her favor.
Prediction: Janicjevic in 2
Marie Bouzkova vs Raluka Serban
Head-to-head: Bouzkova 1-0 Serban
Bouzkova is coming off a much-needed three-set win over Aleksandra Krunic. It was her first win since January. Serban, for her part, rallied from a set down to beat Nuria Parrizas Diaz. The Cypriot has won more atches this season, but Bouzkova is vastly experienced and a more complete player. She shook off the rust in her opening match and will now be a hot favorite for the title.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 2
