Nitto ATP Finals Turin semifinals
Zverev – Fritz: 16.11.2024 14:30 CEST
H2H: 5-6
Alexander Zverev has won eight straight matches. Last week in Paris, Alexander won the Masters 1000 title, winning against Ugo Humbert in the final, in straight sets. Sascha was dominant throughout the whole tournament, playing his best tennis. This was also his first hard-court title of the season. Here in Turin, Sascha won his opening match against Rublev in straight sets as we predicted. After that, in his second group match, Sascha defeated Ruud in tight straight sets as we predicted. Today, in his final group match, Sascha dominated against Alcaraz and won in straight sets. Zverev started this season very well, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open. However, he failed there against Medvedev, after being 2-0 up. Once again, Sascha crumbled under pressure when it was most important. Zverev was consistent throughout the whole season, which granted him a top-2 status in the rankings. However, he still has not achieved his biggest goal, which is winning the Grand Slam title. His biggest chance was in the French Open, where he finished as a runner-up, losing against Alcaraz in the final. Last year in the ATP Finals, Sascha underperformed in Group B with Rublev, Medvedev and Alcaraz. He ended up being third in the group with the exact same number of points as Medvedev and Alcaraz as well. Sascha had his biggest result here in 2021, when he ended up winning the title, winning against Medvedev in the final.
Taylor Fritz has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Taylor lost his opening match against Draper in three tight sets. Before that, Taylor played solidly in Shanghai, where he reached the semifinals, losing against Djokovic in straight sets. Here in Turin, Taylor started off perfectly, winning against Medvedev in straight sets. Fritz was great under pressure, saving all three breakpoints. He also had a high first serve percentage, and made no double faults. After that, Taylor lost his second group match against Sinner in straight sets as we predicted. In his final group match, the American defeated de Minaur in three sets as we predicted. He loves to play in fast conditions such as this one. At the beginning of the season, Fritz reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, where he was stopped by Djokovic in four tight sets. After that, Taylor won the title in Delray Beach, winning against Tommy Paul in the final. His biggest result this season was reaching the final at the US Open, where he was defeated by Sinner in straight sets. Taylor also had a decent success on the grass courts. He won the title in Eastbourne, and reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where he was upset by Musetti in five tight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Zverev is the slight favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. Zverev loves to play in the ATP Finals. He has been tremendous this and last week as well. We believe that he is currently the biggest favorite after Sinner to win the title this week.
That being said, Zverev winning in straight sets is a value bet.
