Nitto ATP Finals Turin Group B
Ruud – Rublev: 15.11.2024 20:30 CEST
H2H: 2-6
Casper Ruud has lost four of his last five matches. Last week in Metz, Casper lost his opening match against Bonzi in straight sets. Casper loves to play on the slower clay courts, where he had his biggest results as well. Here in Turin, Casper upset Alcaraz in his opening match in straight sets. We have to say that Alcaraz was not feeling well, but it was still a solid performance from Casper. After that, in the second group match, Casper lost against Zverev in tight straight sets as we predicted. Ruud started the season very well, playing back-to-back finals in Los Cabos and Acapulco. Other than that, Casper had a disappointing hard-court season. Since the US Open, Casper has just won two of his last ten matches. Ruud needed some solid results recently to qualify for the ATP Finals. However, he crumbled under pressure, and could not deliver his best tennis. Ruud still managed to qualify for the ATP Finals, because several players ranked below him also crumbled under pressure. With Novak Djokovic withdrawing from the tournament, Casper secured himself a spot in the ATP Finals. Even though Ruud never had any big results on the indoor courts, he had his biggest indoor hard court results in the ATP Finals. In his debut campaign in 2021, Ruud reached the semifinals, and just a year later, Ruud reached the final, when he was stopped by Djokovic.
Andrey Rublev has lost four of his last five matches. Last week in Metz, Rublev withdrew from his quarterfinal encounter against Moutet. After Djokovic withdrew from the ATP Finals, Rublev took his spot, and eventually withdrew from his quarterfinal match, apparently because of an abdominal injury. We believe that Andrey just wanted to have some rest, and to prepare for the ATP Finals in Turin. Here in Turin, Andrey lost his opening match against Zverev in straight sets as we predicted. After that, in his second group match, Andrey lost against Alcaraz in straight sets as well. This has been a roller-coaster type of season for the young Russian, who has struggled emotionally on the court throughout the whole season. Andrey started this season well, winning the title in Hong Kong at the beginning of the season. After that, Rublev reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, where he fought a battle against Jannik Sinner. The Russian also finished as the runner-up in Montreal, Where he was upset by Popyrin in the final. Other than that, Rublev has not had any success on the hard courts this season. His biggest title of the season was in Madrid, earlier this season. Andrey won the title, winning against Auger-Aliassime in the final. Last year in Turin, Rublev was the worst player in the tournament, not winning a single set throughout the whole tournament.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Rublev is the slight favorite in this matchup. We believe that Ruud will handle the pressure better than the Russian, and win this match. Rublev never had any success here in Turin, and we believe that he will continue in that fashion.
That being said, Ruud winning is a value bet.
