ATP 500 Vienna 1/8-Finals
Cobolli – de Minaur: 24.10.2024 Time TBA
H2H: 0-1
Flavio Cobolli has won three of his last five matches. Two weeks ago in Shanghai, Flavio reached the third round, where he was defeated by Djokovic in straight sets. Flavio is looking for a solid result this week to cement his top 30 status. Here in Vienna, Flavio defeated Davidovich Fokina in straight sets as we predicted. This has been the best season for the young Italian. Cobolli performed well on each surface this season. Last year around this time, Cobolli played at the challenger tour level.
Alex de Minaur has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Antwerp, de Minaur reached the quarterfinals, where he was upset by Gaston in three tight sets. Alex has not played many matches recently due to his hip injury. Here in Vienna, de Minaur defeated Struff in three tight sets. After losing the first set 2-6, de Minaur stepped up his game, and turned the match around. Last year around this time, de Minaur played in Basel, where he lost in the 1/8-Finals against Griekspoor in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, de Minaur is the favorite in this matchup. Alex is always a dark horse on the indoor courts. His on-court movement and speed are perfect for this surface. Earlier this year, Alex dominated against Cobolli in the third round of the Australian Open. We believe that he will repeat such a performance, and win easily tomorrow as well.
That being said, de Minaur covering the games handicap is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Alex de Minaur -3.5 games handicap @1.83 @bet365
Darderi – Draper: 24.10.2024 Time TBA
H2H: first meeting
Luciano Darderi has lost four of the last five matches. His last win before this tournament was over two months ago in Cincinnati, where he defeated Tabilo in straight sets. Darderi had his biggest results on the clay courts this season, which brought him into the top 50 in the rankings. Here in Vienna, Darderi won against Thiem in straight sets. So far this season, Darderi has played only twelve matches on the hard courts, and has a losing 2-10 record. Last year around this time, Darderi spent his time playing at the challenger tour level, on the clay courts.
Jack Draper has won three of his last five matches. The last match Draper had played before Vienna was in Tokyo, where he reached the quarterfinals, retiring against Humbert mid-match. Draper then pulled out of the Shanghai Masters due to an abdominal injury. Here in Vienna, Draper won his opening match against Nishikori in tight straight sets as we predicted. So far this season, Jack has had a decent amount of success on the fast hard courts such as this one. Last year around this time, Draper spent some time playing at the challenger tour level.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Jack is the big favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. Darderi never had any success on the fast hard courts. On the other hand, Jack thrives under these conditions, so we expect him to dominate and win this match easily.
That being said, Draper covering the games handicap is a value bet.
