Rune Working with Childhood Coach
Holger Rune is working with a familiar coach, Lars Christensen, again. Rune said:
“I am happy to work with Lars again. We have known each other for many years and have developed our very own tennis language together. During the past month, I have trained a few times with Lars when I have been in Denmark, and it has, among other things, had a really good effect on my serve.”
Rune has made many changes to his coaching team in the last couple of years, and this is the latest in the story. On September 20, Rune announced that Iranian-German, Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh is joining as coach at the upcoming tournaments in Asia. But now, Rune states that he will be working with Lars Christensen again and that Kenneth Carlsen is still part of the team. Christensen worked with Rine from 2009-2022 and then for a small period as co-coach in 2023. He knows Rune the best and perhaps that stability is what the 21-year-old needs the most currently.
Nick Kyrgios to Come Back in 2025
Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios has revealed that he is coming back to play tennis in 2025, and his goal is to win a Grand Slam. It will be extremely difficult for Kyrgios to win a Slam, being two years older and the younger guys becoming stronger in his absence. However, Kyrgios has shown the ability to beat any player on his day and is optimistic about his chances.
The 29-year-old Australian told News Corp’s Code Sports on Monday that he would return for the World Tennis League event in December before a tilt at the Australian Open in January 2025. He said:
“I am coming back because something is keeping me around the game, have beaten pretty much every person that has been put in front of me, made a final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles title in a Grand Slam, won multiple titles and made money. But I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That’ll be my deep motivation.”
Wim Fissette is Swiatek’s New Coach
World No.1, Iga Swiatek announced via Instagram that she has started working with Wim Fissette as her new coach. She recently split with her longtime coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski and was on the lookout for a coach and decided to skip Wuhan in the process. Over the years, Fissette has collaborated with several of the best players in the game, including Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka, Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber, and Qinwen Zheng. The Belgian has helped many of them win Grand Slams, and Swiatek will expect the same from him, especially at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
