ATP Chengdu Day 3 Predictions Including Nicolas Jarry vs Lukas Klein

Nicolas Jarry in action ahead of the ATP Chengdu Open.

It promises to be an entertaining third day at the ATP Chengdu Open with a number of entertaining matches on the slate in south-western China. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for all four matches on the slate, but who will book their spot in the quarterfinals in Chengdu?

ATP Chengdu Day 3 Predictions

Alibek Kachmazov vs Taro Daniel

Head-to-head: first meeting

Alibek Kachmazov is having an excellent week at the ATP Chengdu Open. But will the Russian world #252 be able to sustain that against Taro Daniel? The Japanese has probably not maximised his talent, but he has established himself as a semi-regular member of the world’s top 100 and has picked up some impressive wins over the course of his career. A win for Kachmazov is certainly not out of the question, but the Japanese has a higher ceiling. Daniel should win this match.

Prediction: Daniel in 3

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard vs Yannick Hanfmann

Head-to-head: first meeting

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard clearly has a very bright future, but the Frenchman’s natural game will likely result in a succession of boom-or-bust results. That does not bode well coming into this match for a player whose recent form leaves a great deal to be desired. He did pick up a win in the first round against Sun Fajing, but he made relatively hard work of it. Against the experienced Yannick Hanfmann, don’t be surprised to see the young gun come unstuck.

Prediction: Hanfmann in 3

Nicolas Jarry vs Lukas Klein

Head-to-head: Jarry 1-0 Klein

Nicolas Jarry’s results have fallen in recent months, undoing what had promised to be an excellent season for the Chilean. Indeed, he has now lost more matches than he has won in 2024 – a poor return for a player of his quality. But the Asian swing might just give him the chance to build some fresh momentum. This certainly looks like a winnable match, with Lukas Klein yet to break the top 100 (though expect that to happen sooner than later). If Jarry can temoer his power with the required accuracy and play on the front foot, his quality should tell.

Prediction: Jarry in 2

Aleksandar Vukic vs Pedro Martinez

Head-to-head: Martinez 1-0 Vukic

This could end up being a difficult match for the fourth seed Pedro Martinez. The Spaniard remains rather more comfortable on the clay and whilst he is invariably an excellent competitor, his game is very much solid rather than spectacular. Aleksandar Vukic is not a particularly big hitter himself, but the Australian has more variety than his opponent and is more comfortable stepping in to finish a point when in the early ascendancy. It could go either way, but Vukic might just have enough.

Prediction: Vukic in 3
