WTA US Open semifinals

Pegula – Muchova: 06.09.2024 02:30 CEST
H2H: 2-0

Jessica Pegula has won five straight matches. She is yet to lose a set in the tournament. The American crowd was cheering for her throughout the whole tournament. This could be a historical all-American final this year in New York if Pegula and Navarro win their semifinal matches. Jessica won her opening round against Rogers in straight sets. She struggled a little bit in the first set, but other than that, Pegula played a great match. In the second round, Pegula won against Kenin in straight sets. In an all-Americanbattle, Jessica was the better player throughout the whole match. After that, in the third round, Pegula won against Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets yet again. Jessica struggled in that match with her rhythm, but Bouzas was terrible and gave her a lot of points. Diana Shnaider also had no answer against Jessica in the 1/8-Finals. Pegula was great from the very start, and did not offer much. When she plays like that, Pegula can win against anyone. Yesterday in the quarterfinals, Pegula upset Swiatek in straight sets. Jessica played flat and aggressive shots from the very start, which paid off. Swiatek looked helpless on the court, which we do not see very often. Last year in New York, Pegula lost in the 1/8-Finals of the tournament.

Karolína Muchová has won five straight matches. She is also yet to lose a tournament in the tournament. Muchova had a favorable draw so far, but she still showed great tennis, and won those matches easily. In her opening round, Karolina won against the young American, Volynets, in straight sets. Muchova won the first set 6-3 convincingly. After that, in the second set, Karolina lost her serve three times, but still managed to close out the match in straight sets. After that, in the second round, Muchova defeated Osaka in straight sets. Muchova was 4-5 and 0-40 down in the second set, and saved three straight set points. In the third round, Karolina won against Potapova 6-4 6-2. She offered only two breakpoints, and saved both of them. Ranking-wise, Muchova had her biggest challenge in the 1/8-Finals where she faced the number 5 in the world, Jasmine Paolini. Muchova showed no respect, and won 6-3, 6-3 respectively. Yesterday in the quarterfinals, Karolina defeated Haddad Maia in straight sets. Muchova was a better player on the court from the very start, and showed great tennis once again. Last year in New York, Muchova reached the semifinals, where she lost against Coco Gauff in straight sets.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Pegula is the slight favorite in this matchup. Just three weeks ago, Jessica faced Muchova in Cincinnati. Pegula won that match, after she lost the first set. Looking at their current form, we can say that Pegula is a better player at this moment. We believe that after beating Swiatek, Pegula will be fully confident coming into this match.

That being said, Pegula winning is a value bet.
