US Open Day 2 Women’s Predictions Including Shelby Rogers vs Jessica Pegula

Shelby Rogers French Open

The American pair of Jessica Pegula and Shelby Rogers will face off on day 2 of the US Open 2024, our panelists predict every match.

Jessica Pegula vs Shelby Rogers

Jordan: Hopefully, Rogers can put on a good show in her final ever match. Her level this year does mean a drubbing in her last outing is possible. Pegula is almost certain to win, but the fans on Arthur Ashe Stadium will hope the score is respectable. Pegula in 2
Steen: At 30-12 on the year and a double finals appearance this summer (won Toronto, lost Cincy), Pegula is dominating the US Open summer circuit swing. The retiring Rogers is just 4-7 at tour level this year, her swan song is unlikely to result in an upset victory. Pegula in 2

Anna Bondar vs Bernarda Pera

Jordan: This is a good draw for both players. Pera prefers playing on clay and her success at WTA Tour level on hard courts is limited. That may give a slight edge to Bondar. Bondar in 3
Steen: Pera has been at tour level this year, but prefers clay and has really struggled on the season. Bondar usually plays at ITF level but she’s been far more successful, I like the momentum Bondar is building. Bondar in 2

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova vs Clara Tauson

Jordan: There is a clash of styles this matchup. Schmiedlova’s consistency against Tauson’s firepower. The Dane’s game often falters in tight moments, meaning I struggle to back her in what could be a close battle.

Steen: AKS is 16-17 at tour level this season, Tauson is just 9-12, neither player has been impressive, but AKS looks a little more reliable. Schmiedlova in 3

Yulia Putintseva vs Linda Noskova

Jordan: Noskova begins the US Open after the high of securing her first WTA Tour title in Monterrey on Saturday. Despite her excellent performances, I do not think she will defeat Putintseva. The Kazakhstani’s superb movement and variety is a good combination to disrupt the Czech. Putintseva in 2
Steen: Putintseva is a remarkable 28-14 on the year, it’s a shame she has to face Noskova who is 26-16 and just won the WTA Monterrey tournament down in Mexico. If Noskova is not exhausted, she should have the upper hand, but with fatigue a factor, Putintseva should win a clash of talents. Putintseva in 3
