US Open Day 2 Women’s Predictions Including Jelena Ostapenko vs Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka in action ahead of the French Open.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Naomi Osaka is a heavyweight clash on day 2 of the US Open women’s singles draw. Our panelists offer their predictions for every match.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Naomi Osaka

Jordan: There will be extremely powerful hitting in this heavyweight clash. Both former Grand Slam champions have also been inconsistent lately. Many have written Osaka off after her recent struggles, but something tells me she could find some inspiration in New York. Osaka in 3

Steen: 17-15 on the year, Osaka has had some winning moments but not enough of them in 2024. Ostapenko’s 29-16 record compares favorably and in the battle of veterans, you have to back the one that is playing better tennis. Ostapenko in 2

Petra Martic vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro

Jordan: Bouzas Maneiro is improving very quickly on hard courts. The experienced Martic is likely to need some of her old magic to hit through the Spaniard. I have a feeling youth will trump experience in this matchup. Bouzas Maneiro in 3

Steen: Bouzas Maneiro is at a career high ranking and has been rocking and rolling at the qualifier and ITF level this season, this is a rapidly rising player, Martic is 9-16 at tour level this year and far off her best tennis, conditions are great for JBM to win this matchup. Bouzas Maneiro in 2

Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Alexa Noel

Jordan: The consistency and intensity of Sorribes Tormo will come as a a shock to Noel, who is ranked outside the Top 700. It is hard to make any case for the American winning this match, but the experience will be invaluable for her. Sorribes Tormo in 2

Steen: The NCAA standout Noel should be a level off from Sorribes Tormo, the Spaniard does have a losing record this season and that creates an opening, but probably not enough of one for Noel to win this big match. Sorribes Tormo in 3

Elisabetta Cocciaretto vs Kateryna Baindl

Jordan: Cocciaretto has not found her previous level since getting an illness during the grass court season. That will give Baindl hope of causing an upset. I am not confident enough to predict she will achieve it, though. Cocciaretto in 3

Steen: Baindl hasn’t been a presence at this tour level in a while, Cocciaretto has lost form lately but is consistently competing at the tour level, the player used to competing at a higher level should prevail. Cocciaretto in 2
