US Open Day 2 Women’s Predictions Brenda Fruhvirtova vs Varvara Lepchenko

Linda Fruhvirtova at the US Open.

Day 2 at the US Open sees Camila Osorio, Katie Boulter, and Varvara Lepchenko among the players in action as we have previews and predictions for all of Tuesday’s play.

Mirra Andreeva vs Camila Osorio

Jordan: Osorio could make this an interesting match if she produces the tennis that almost defeated Emma Navarro in Monterrey last week. She still lost that match, though, and Andreeva’s best level on a hard court is superior. The teenager’s clean hitting makes her the favorite. Andreeva in 2

Nurein: Osorio won the US Open girls’ singles title in 2019, but she hasn’t quite hit her stride on the main Tour. By contrast, Andreeva has hit the ground running while still being a teenager. She is punching above her weight and should be a strong favorite to reach the second round. Andreeva in 2

Eva Lys vs Marie Bouzkova

Jordan: Bouzkova is a very solid hard court player who is adept at wearing her opponents down. Lys will need to be aggressive and produce her best tennis to have a chance. The Czech is too reliable for me to predict against her. Bouzkova in 2

Nurein: Maria Boukova scored the biggest win of her career in Washington (defeated Sabalenka), but has form has since gone downhill losing three in a row. It wouldn’t totally surprise me if she lost again particularly with Eva Lys coming off a great run in qualifying. Lys in 3

Katie Boulter vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich

Jordan: Boulter’a form since winning the Nottingham Open at the start of June has dropped. Her powerful hitting should be too good for Sasnovich, but the Russian’s game is based on putting balls into play. That may not suit Boulter due to her recent inconsistency, but she is still given the edge overall. Boulter in 3

Nurein: This is officially Katie Boulter’s best season. But can she make her mark at Grand Slam level? Sasnovich comes in with more experience at this level, but the Belarusian veteran hasn’t defeated a top-ranked player in a while which suggests she is no longer playing at a high level. Boulter in 2

Brenda Fruhvirtova vs Varvara Lepchenko

Jordan: The hugely talented Fruhvirtova is yet to reach her full potential. She is the favorite to beat Lepchenko in the US Open conditions. The young star plays her best tennis on medium fast hard courts. Fruhvirtova in 2

Nurein: This is a 50-50 matchup. Lepchenko has previously made the second week of the US Open, but that was almost a decade ago. Brenda Fruhvirtova is emerging as potential force in women’s tennis with a Top 100 return almost imminent. Right now, I’m boarding the hype train and picking the 17-year-old Fruhvirtova.
