ATP Gstaad Best Bets Including Tsitsipas vs Medjedovic

Stefanos Tsitsipas in action ahead of the French Open

ATP 250 Gstaad 1/8-Finals

Varillas – Fognini: 17.07.2024 10:30 CEST
H2H: first meeting

Juan Pablo Varillas has won four of his last five matches. Here in Gstaad, Juan fought through the qualifying tournament and got into the main-draw. In the first qualifying round, Varillas won against Tabur in easy straight sets. After that, Varillas struggled against Kym in the second qualifying round. However, Varillas was the better player in the deciding set, and won the match in three sets in the end. In the first main-draw round, Varillas defeated Thiem in three tight sets as we predicted. Here in Gstaad, Varillas reached the quarterfinals in 2022, and in 2023.

Fabio Fognini has won three of his last five matches. Last week at Wimbledon, Fabio reached the third round where he lost against Bautista-Agut in five tight sets. Here in Gstaad, Fabio won his first round match against Droguet in straight sets. He played great tennis and won deservingly. So far this season, Fabio has not have any remarkable results on the clay courts. Last year in Gstaad, Fognini lost in the first round of the tournament against Ramos-Vinolas in three sets.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this should be a 50-50 match. Varillas is a very dangerous clay court player. We believe that, at this moment, Juan is a better clay court player than Fognini. Fabio had an easy draw in the first round, so we are yet to see how he will perform against a solid clay court player.

That being said, Varillas winning is a value bet.

Tsitsipas – Medjedovic: 17.07.2024 15:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting

Stefanos Tsitsipas has won three of his last five matches. Two weeks ago at Wimbledon, Tsitsipas lost against Ruusuvuori in the second round. His last clay court match was at the French Open where he lost against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals in straight sets as we predicted. So far this season on the clay, Tsitsipas has won the title in Monte Carlo and reached the final in Barcelona, where he lost against Casper Ruud. This will be his debut match in Gstaad. In his previous years, Stefanost played in Hamburg.

Hamad Medjedovic has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Salzburg, Medjedovic lost in the quarterfinals against Buse at the challenger tournament. The Serbian loves to play on the fast clay courts. In his first round match, Medjedovic won against Huesler in three sets as we predicted. Last year in Gstaad, Medjedovic entered the tournament as a qualifier. Hamad won five straight matches there and reached the semifinals, where he was defeated by Cachin in straight sets. This is an important tournament for Medjedovic, who is looking to get into the top 100.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Medjedovic is the big underdog in this matchup. This will be the first clay court match for Stefanos after he lost at Wimbledon. We believe that he will need some time to adapt to the surface. On the other hand, Medjedovic has played a couple of clay court matches already, and looked good in his first round match.

That being said, Medjedovic covering the games handicap is a value bet.

Value bet/ the best odds: Hamad Medjedovic +2.5 games handicap @2.00 @bet365
