Off-Court Report: Getting to Know Wimbledon Champion Barbora Krejcikova

Barbora Krejcikova Celebrates Winning Wimbledon Semifinal

While waiting out a rain delay earlier this week at Wimbledon, Barbora Krejcikova hosted a light-hearted Q+A with fans on X, revealing her playful side and a few strong opinions. Read on to see what she had to say about everything from trains to tea and even Alaskan bears.

Getting to Know Wimbledon Champion Barbora Krejcikova

Tea without milk?

Wimbledon fans might be aghast to hear that when it comes to her tea, Krejcikova was adamant that she doesn’t fancy milk in it. Perhaps this isn’t too surprising, given her Czech roots. Herbal teas are very popular in Eastern Europe, and even the most traditional Brit would likely say milk in herbal tea is a no-no. And speaking of a no-go — Krejcikova revealed she doesn’t like coffee at all.

Pineapple on Pizza? Yes, please.

Not holding back on controversial food takes, Krejcikova said she approves of pineapple on pizza. Shhhhh. Don’t tell Jasmine Paolini, her opponent in the Wimbledon Final this Saturday. If the Italian gets wind of it, she may be even more inspired to win, if only to set the record straight.

Dream destination: Alaska

Tennis players probably accrue more frequent flyer miles than any other professional athletes traversing the world every season. Krejcikova says she’d love to visit Alaska (one of the few spots on the globe where there isn’t a tennis tournament) to see the bears. In the meantime, let’s hope she knows about the viral Katmai Bear Cam!

Trains and lemon sorbet among her favorites

Krejcikova revealed many of her favorite things during the Q&A, including being a public transport enthusiast, saying, “I LOVE TRAINS!” and that her favorite ice cream flavor is lemon sorbet. She enthusiastically described her ideal sandwich as one made with brown bread, chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce, cranberry sauce, salt and pepper, and most importantly, it should be toasted. “I hate cold sandwiches,” she said.

Not a fan of … tennis edition

When asked which tennis rule she’d change if she could, Krejcikova said she wished the serve clock was longer than 25 seconds. Though she didn’t say she’d disallow it, she also said she’s not a fan of opponents’ grunting, especially when it’s inconsistent or gets louder on key points.

Rafa, ultimate mixed doubles partner

When asked who she’d most like to play mixed doubles with, she said she’d choose Rafa Nadal and that her favorites to watch over the years have been Rafa, Roger Federer, and Justine Henin. She also told everyone she’ll reunite with Kateřina Siniaková to play doubles together at the Paris Olympics.

Favorite Surface, Clay or Grass?

It might be safe to assume that the former French Open Champion is fond of the clay, but when a fan asked if she preferred clay over grass, her response hinted that the grass might be “growing” on her.  “Not anymore,” she said, adding a laughing emoji for emphasis.
