ATP Wimbledon quarterfinals
Sinner – Medvedev: 09.07.2024 14:30 CEST
H2H: 5-6
Jannik Sinner has won eight straight matches. Two weeks ago in Halle, Sinner lifted the title, winning against Hurkacz in the final in two tight tiebreaks as we predicted. In his first round match at Wimbledon, Sinner defeated Hanfmann in four sets. It was not his best serving performance, but he was great under pressure, saving 9/11 breakpoints. After that, in the second round, Sinner had it tough against Berrettini as we predicted. Jannik defeated him in four sets, winning all three tiebreaks in the match. An all-Italian second round match did not disappoint. In the third round, Jannik defeated Kecmanovic in easy straight sets. Jannik played his best tennis in that match, and won easily. Yesterday, in the 1/8-Finals, Sinner won the first set against Shelton 6-2 without any problems. In the second set, Sinner broke his serve at the beginning of the set, and kept his composure by winning the second set 6-4. In the third set, Sinner was 2-4 down, and even had to save four set points. According to the bookies, Sinner is one of the biggest favorites to win Wimbledon this season. Last year at Wimbledon, Jannik reached the semifinals where he lost against Djokovic in straight sets.
Daniil Medvedev has won four of his last five matches. After losing against de Minaur in the 1/8-Finals at the French Open, Daniil has played only one preparation tournament for Wimbledon. Two weeks ago in Halle, Medvedev lost against Zhang in three tight sets as we predicted. Here at Wimbledon, Medvedev won his first round match against Kovacevic in straight sets. Daniil saved all three breakpoints, and had a great serving performance. After that, in the second round, Medvedev had it rough against Muller as we predicted. Medvedev lost the first set, but was able to win the match in four tight sets. In his third round match, Medvedev played his best tennis against Struff. He was 2-0 up after just an hour. However, Struff won the third set 6-4, and was even 3-1 up in the fourth set tiebreak. Daniil stayed calm, and played patiently. Yesterday, in the 1/8-Finals, Dimitrov was 3-5 down against Medvedev, and unfortunately retired after that. The Bulgarian slipped to 2-3 in the first set. Dimitrov tried to continue, but it seems that his injury is serious, unfortunately. That being said, Medvedev had some decent time to recover for his quarterfinal match against Jannik. Besides reaching the semifinals last year at Wimbledon where he lost against Alcaraz, Daniil never had any remarkable results on grass.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Sinner is the big favorite in this matchup. Looking at their head-to-head meetings, Medvedev is leading 6-5. However, Jannik won the last five meetings. They never met on grass, but Sinner won all five matches on the fast hard courts. We believe that Sinner is a way better grass court player, and that he will win easily against Medvedev.
That being said, Sinner covering the games handicap is a value bet.
