WTA French Open semifinals
Paolini – Andreeva: 06.06.2024 16:30 CEST
H2H: 0-1
Jasmine Paolini has won her last five matches. At the beginning of the tournament, Paolini won both of her first matches in straight sets easily. In the 1/16-Finals, Paolini fought hard against Andreescu and won in the end in three sets. Two days ago in her 1/8-Finals match, Paolini lost the first set against Avanesyan, which made her angry. After losing the first set, Paolini went on to win 12 out of the 13 games, which led to her winning 6-0 and 6-1 against Avanesyan. Today, Paolini upset Rybakina in three tough sets. It was one of the biggest surprises this season. Jasmine was absolutely dominating in the first set, winning 6-2. After that, Paolini was 4-3 up in the second set, but fumbled under pressure, losing three straight games. The third set was an absolute rollercoaster, but Paolini stayed calm and served out the match, winning the third set 6-4. With this result, Paolini will become the new top 10 on Monday. We have to mention that Paolini also reached the semifinal in doubles with her partner Sara Errani. This is the best season of her young career. She reached the finals in Palermo and Monastir earlier this year, and also lifted a WTA 1000 title in Dubai.
Mirra Andreeva has won her last five matches. Mirra is still only 17 years old, and it is impressive to see her compete at the highest level like that. Before the French Open, Andreeva had a great run in Madrid where she lost against Sabalenka in the quarterfinals. Her shot selection became much better this year, and therefore better results as well. So far in Paris, Andreeva has lost only two sets. In the first round, Andreeva won comfortably against Bektas in straight sets. After that, Andreeva fought hard against Azarenka, winning in three tight sets. Another American, Peyton Stearns, tried to stop her, but also did not get an answer. Andreeva defeated her 6-2 6-1. In her 1/8-Final match, Andreeva was on the verge of losing the first set, but managed to save a couple of set points and win the match comfortably against Gracheva in straight sets. Today, Mirra secured her biggest win of her young career. After losing the first set against Sabalenka, many fans thought that it was all over. However, Andreeva kept fighting and eventually won the match after almost three hours in three sets. With that win, Andreeva became the youngest Grand Slam semifinalist since Martina Hingis in 1997.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, this should be a pretty even match. Earlier this year, Andreeva defeated Paolini in Madrid in straight sets. That was also the only head-to-head meeting between them. Considering that Paolini has played three straight three-setters, we believe that she may be tired tomorrow. Andreeva has spent way less time on the court so far, and that could be a crucial factor tomorrow.
That being said, Andreeva winning is a value bet.
