ATP French Open Best Bets Including Thiem vs Virtanen

Dominic Thiem in action ahead of the ATP Madrid Open.

ATP French Open qualifications

Andreev – Zeppieri: 22.05.2024 Time TBA
H2H: first meeting

Adrian Andreev has won three of his last five matches. He is outside the top 200 in the rankings. So far this season, Andreev has not had any remarkable results and has spent most of his matches at the challenger tour level. His biggest wins came on the fast surfaces. Clay in Paris is pretty slow, so we are not sure how he will adapt to the surface. In the first qualification round at the French Open, Andreev won against Yevseyev in three tough sets. He even saved one match point and was 1-4 down in the deciding set. It was overall a bad match for both players.

Giulio Zeppieri has lost three of his last five matches. The young Italian is not in his best form, but he performed well in the first qualification round. Zeppieri defeated Travaglia in straight sets convincingly. He served almost perfectly, getting 11 aces and offering only two breakpoints which he saved. Before the French Open, Zeppieri played a lot of matches on the clay courts on the challenger tour to prepare for the French Open. Last year at the French Open, Zeppieri fought throughout the qualification tournament and even won his first round match against Bublik.

Best Bet to Make

Zeppieri has a solid history in Paris. We believe that he is overall a better player than Andreev. He showed better tennis in the first qualification round, and we believe that he will once again qualify for the main tournament.

That being said, Zeppieri winning is a value bet.

Thiem – Virtanen: 22.05.2024 Time TBA
H2H: first meeting

Dominic Thiem announced earlier this month that this would be his last season and that he would retire at the end of the season. We are not sure why he was not given the wild card by the tournament directors, but we believe that he will win his qualifying matches and play at the French Open for one last time. Thiem won his first qualifying match against Agamenone in three sets. So far this season, Thiem has not had any remarkable results and has been struggling on the court.

Otto Virtanen is a young talent from Finland. He spent most of his time on the fast indoor courts at the challenger tour level. He is a great server, so this slower surface does not fit his game. In the first qualification round, Virtanen got lucky, with the draw, defeating young Australian Sweeny in straight sets easily. Before the French Open, Virtanen tried to qualify for the challenger tournament in Turin. He lost in the first qualification round against Huesler in straight sets.

Best Bet to Make

Dominic Thiem is overall a better clay court player than Virtanen. Even in this form, Thiem should be able to dominate the rallies. He is also more experienced than Virtanen playing on the big scene, so we believe that his experience will prevail in this match.

That being said, Thiem winning in straight sets is a value bet.
