WTA Cluj-Napoca Semifinal Predictions Including Rebeka Masarova vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse

Rebeka Masarova in action ahead of the WTA Cluj-Napoca Open.

The WTA Cluj-Napoca Open has reached the final four after an entertaining week of tennis in Romania. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our prediction for both semifinals, as well as the semifinal action in Jiangxi and Monastir, but who will reach Sunday’s final?

WTA Cluj-Napoca semifinal predictions

Eva Lys vs Tamara Korpatsch

Head-to-head: first meeting

An all German semifinal is the first match on court. Eva Lys dispatched top seed Sorana Cirstea in the first round at the WTA Cluj-Napoca Open in straight sets to the disappointment of the Romanian crowd. Lys’ dominant display against the Romanian was followed up by a winning effort in a three-set battle in the second round against another Romanian in Jaqueline Cristian. She backed that up with another straight-sets win in the quarterfinal against Ekaterina Makarova to reach her semifinal of the season at this level. Tamara Korpatsch had a much tougher route to this stage, having been taken the distance in all three matches. Given the level Lys has displayed so far, Korpatsch would do well to take a fourth match to three sets.

Prediction: Lys in 2

Rebeka Masarova vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse

Head-to-head: first meeting

Rebeka Masarova is the only seed left in the draw. The Spaniard has dropped just one set in reaching the last four, battling past fifth seed Ana Bogdan in three sets in the quarterfinals. Elena-Gabriela Ruse, meanwhile, is the Romanian left standing and will surely have the crowd on her side as a result. Having battled through tough matches to reach the semifinal, including a memorable win over second seed and rising star Alycia Parks in the second round, Ruse will be hoping to make the spot in the final in her home country. It will be a tough ask for the Romanian against the fourth seed but she does in fact have a chance. Ultimately, however, Masarova should have just about enough to reach Sunday’s final.

Prediction Masarova in 3
