In what promises to be an entertaining final at the WTA Lausanne Open, Clara Burel will take on Elisabetta Cocciaretto for the title in Switzerland. Both will no doubt be determined to get their hands on the trophy and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our prediction for the match, as well as as well as the ATP Umag and ATP Hamburg finals. But will it be Cocciaretto or Burel who comes out on top in Lausanne?

Head-to-head: Cocciaretto 1-0 Burel
Cocciaretto, seeded second at the WTA Lausanne Open, has had to work hard for her spot in the final. She was taken the distance by Celine Naef in the first round and then had to go the distance again to beat Julia Riera in the round of 16. Her quarterfinal victory over Elina Avanesyan was comparatively straightfoward, but the Italian then had to dig extremely deep to rally from a set down to beat Anna Bondar 6-7 7-6 7-5 in the semifinals.

Burel, in contrast, has made relatively serene progress to the final in Lausanna. The Frenchwoman started her week with a 6-4 6-4 win over Olga Danilovic and backed that up by dismissing fifth seed Emma Navarro for the loss of only five games. Burel then benefitted when third seed Ana Bogdan was forced to retire trailing 3-6 0-1 in the quarterfinals. That set up a semifinal clash with her compatriot Diane Parry, which Burel won 4-6 7-6 6-3 to return to the final at the WTA Lausanne Open.
She was beaten in a final-set tiebreak by Tamara Zidansek two years ago, but has played well enough so far this week that she has a good chance of going one better this time around if she can maintain her level. She did, however, lose her only previous match against Cocciaretto, two years ago at a WTA 125k event in Makarska. Cocciaretto has also shown impressive resilience so far this week. Still, in a close matchup, Burel’s greater fluency this week and apparent enjoyment of the conditions in Lausanne might just be decisive.
