ATP Gstaad Semifinal Predictions Including Matteo Berrettini vs Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem in action at the French Open

The last four at the ATP Swiss Open in Gstaad features an absolutely star studded lineup with defending champion Casper Ruud, Dominic Thiem, and former World #3 and last year’s Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini all in the mix of taking the title home.

ATP Gstaad Semifinal Predictions

Casper Ruud vs Albert Ramos

Head-to-head: Ramos 3-2

Whilst the Spaniard leads the head-to-head it’s worth noting that all three of his wins came over three years ago with the Norwegian winning the last two including a straight sets win at Wimbledon just a few weeks ago where Ramos blew many chances in both the first two sets. Ruud has been decent in his first two matches this week but still far off the form which saw him make the Roland Garros final, on the other hand Ramos has struggled in both of his matches so far this week including needing a final set tiebreak saving match point to beat Jarry. Both play similar defensive games on the clay but Ruud’s movement and forehand edge the the Spaniard’s and should make the difference here being able to hit through his opponent more.

Dominic Thiem vs Matteo Berrettini

Head-to-head: Berrettini 3-2

What an absolute blockbuster of a match for an ATP 250 semifinal. A few weeks ago just the thought of Dominic Thiem in a semifinal was crazy to think whilst a semifinal for the Italian would have been the norm. In their last two meetings, although on hard courts, Berrettini has not dropped a set exposing the Austrian’s longer swings on the faster courts. In their only clay court meeting Thiem won a fairly routine four setter although four years ago. Truth be told, this is impossible to call. Berrettini looked good in his first match since recovering from COVID against Gasquet but against Martinez in the quarterfinals found himself a set and 5-1 down in the second set tiebreak before miraculously winning. If that Berrettini shows up, it should be a first final since 2020 for Thiem; if not, it’s anyone’s game.
Prediction: Thiem in 3
