Olga Danilovic vs Misaki Doi
Head-to-head: first meeting
With how much of a more natural clay player she is, Danilovic has to be the favorite. The Serb dropped just ten games in qualifying, beating Joanne Zuger and Anastasia Zakharova. Danilovic only began her season in May and has stuck to clay, with a second-round run out of qualifying at Roland Garros the highlight of her season so far. Doi has plenty of experience but no wins in four matches on the surface. The 31-year-old pulling off an upset here would be a real shock.

Irina-Camelia Begu vs Tamara Korpatsch
Head-to-head: first meeting
Begu is coming off two strong slam runs, reaching the fourth round at the French Open and the third round at Wimbledon. The Romanian veteran has plenty of main tour experience and as a third seed, should be seen as a potential title contender this week. Korpatsch will be a tricky opponent though. The German is on a four-match losing streak after the grass season but reached the final of a WTA 125 in Marbella. Still, I see Begu as a favorite here.

Anna Blinkova vs Erika Andreeva
Head-to-head: first meeting
Two Russian qualifiers facing off here. Blinkova is more well-known and established, a former No. 54, while Andreeva is an 18-year-old on the rise, her ranking of 153 the highest she has ever been. Both have had strong clay seasons, Blinkova reaching the final of a WTA 125 in Saint-Malo while Andreeva had a final run as a qualifier at ITF 100 La Bisbal. This is a close call but I will go with the 23-year-old due to her experience.

Caroline Garcia vs Jasmine Paolini
Head-to-head: Garcia 1-0 Paolini
Garcia really came alive during the grass season, winning her tenth WTA title in Bad Homburg and beating Emma Raducanu en route to the fourth round at Wimbledon. Paolini broke a four-match losing streak last week in her run quarterfinal run in Contrexeville, defeating Bernarda Pera and Anna Blinkova. The Italian will be tough to beat considering Garcia’s semifinal run here last season, the Frenchwoman should be a slight favorite.
Prediction: Garcia in 3
Belinda Bencic vs Diane Parry
Head-to-head: first meeting
Bencic has shown some really good form at points this season on all surfaces, such as her Charleston title, Miami semifinal run, or Berlin final last month. The Swiss will be looking to recapture form in front of a home crowd though after a tough loss to Wang Qiang in the Wimbledon first round. Parry had a surprisingly strong grass season, reaching the semifinals in Gaiba and a Wimbledon third round. The Frenchwoman also made the third round at Roland Garros, defeating Barbora Krejcikova in her first match back from injury. If Bencic enters in the right mindset, she should be winning this match.
