We conclude the men’s and women’s second rounds on Day 4 at Wimbledon. 32 women will battle for a spot in the third round, and only 16 will emerge. Who do you think will move on at the All-England Club? As always, our writers share their thoughts on the matches. We split up the day’s 16 matches between four articles, including this one. The other three feature Iga Swiatek vs Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove, Bianca Andreescu vs Elena Rybakina, and Simona Halep vs Kirsten Flipkens. Predicting Thursday’s matches are Jakub Bobro, Damian Kust, and Andy Watson.
Wimbledon Day 4 Women’s Predictions
Barbora Krecjikova vs Viktorija Golubic
Jakub:
Krejcikova got her first win back from injury since February, defeating Maryna Zanevska in straight sets. Golubic was a quarterfinalist here last year but is in worse form this season. The 29-year-old did look good in her win over Andrea Petkovic though and I see her pulling off the upset here.
Prediction: Golubic in 3
Damian:
Viktorija Golubic made the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year, but she hasn’t been in such good form in 2022. Her brilliant one-handed backhand will test if Barbora Krejcikova is still rusty and far off her best. She very well could be and the Swiss is no slouch.
Prediction: Golubic in 3
Andy:
Tough one to call due to fitness issues. If Krejcikova is getting close to fully fit then she should win but Golubic is a very capable grass court player. I am edging towards the Swiss as I know what she will deliver and she has good current form.

Kristina Kucova vs Petra Martic
Jakub:
Kucova has been struggling this year but got a favorable draw with Laura Pigossi. Martic put in a very good performance against Shelby Rogers to close her out in straight sets, though it got tough towards the end. The Croat has made the second week here twice before so should not have too much trouble with Kucova.
Prediction: Martic in 2
Damian:
Despite coming into Wimbledon with no wins on grass this year, Petra Martic put up a fine display in her dismissal of Shelby Rogers. She’s made the fourth round in London a couple of times before and while she’s commonly associated with clay, her variety works on this surface and she can play in the forecourt as well.
Prediction: Martic in 2
Andy:
These two haven’t played since 2010! So it’ll be interesting to see what happens. Martic is experienced at this stage of Grand Slams and it was an impressive victory against Rogers in the opening round so I am edging towards her.

Amanda Anisimova vs Lauren Davis
Jakub:
Anisimova has been considered a big threat at the first two Slams but there just is not enough data on her at Wimbledon. The 20-year-old did beat Yue Yuan without much of a problem. Davis is head into back-to-back American derbies after beating Madison Brengle in her opener. It will be an interesting test for Anisimova on grass but I believe she will pass it.

Damian:
The quality of Amanda Anisimova’s movement on grass isn’t as great as it is on other surfaces and that could potentially be exposed. However, in this matchup against Lauren Davis, it seems like everything is on her racket. She’ll get to play her risky hard-hitting playing style and her efficiency should determine the result.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2
Andy:
Whilst I don’t think that this is quite the tournament for Anisimova at this stage, she is making strides back towards the top of the game where her talent should be able to take her. Davis is a good player but Anisimova should be able to outpower and outclass her.

Paula Badosa vs Irina Bara
Jakub:
Badosa did not give Louisa Chirico a sniff of a chance in the first round, dropping just three games. I expect a similar performance and result against Bara who is in her first main draw here and beat Chloe Paquet.

Damian:
Paula Badosa played just one grass match before Wimbledon this year, but she looked as if she found her rhythm dispatching Louisa Chirico in the first round here. Irina Maria Bara is a favorable draw that should take the 4th seeded Spaniard to the next stage of the event.
Prediction: Badosa in 2
Andy:
I had doubts about Badosa before the tournament but she played really well in her opening match. It is likely that she takes this match too unless Bara is able to up her level considerably.
