The WTA Bad Homburg final eight is one that has to make you excited for Wimbledon. So many big names are showing strong form heading into the slam and we also have the brilliant story of Sabine Lisicki shining after all these years. As always, we here at LWOT will preview and predict every match. Who do you think will win?
WTA Bad Homburg Quarterfinal Predictions
Daria Kasatkina vs Bianca Andreescu
Head-to-head: Andreescu 1-0 Kasatkina
Kasatkina’s variety makes her an impressive grass player with last season’s Birmingham final and her 2018 Wimbledon quarterfinal run as proof. This grass season, the Russian took a rough loss to Maria Sakkari but has also had strong performances. In Bad Homburg, the top seed beat Andrea Petkovic and Jule Niemeier on her way to the quarterfinals. Andreescu’s grass experience on the main tour is quite limited, this being her first grass quarterfinal. The Canadian did look solid in her wins over Martina Trevisan and Katie Swan, though they might not be the most formidable opponents. Kasatkina’s superior grass play should make her a solid favorite here though Andreescu does possess the power to hit through the Russian on her day.
Prediction: Kasatkina in 2
Alize Cornet vs Angelique Kerber
Head-to-head: Kerber 5-2 Cornet
The head-to-head is the main story here with Kerber largely dominating Cornet in their previous meetings, including a win in their only previous match on grass in Eastbourne 2014. Kerber, the defending champion in Bad Homburg, is looking to kickstart her season on grass as the German has been largely struggling outside of her Strasbourg title. This week, Kerber has been strong in wins over easy opponents in Anastasia Gasanova and Luciana Bronzetti. Cornet is not known for her grass game and her season has not taken flight like it seemed it might after her run to the Australian Open quarterfinals. Kerber should be a strong favorite for this match.

Caroline Garcia vs Sabine Lisicki
Head-to-head: Garcia 2-1 Lisicki
Lisicki has been a stunning story at this tournament. The 2013 Wimbledon finalist is in her first WTA quarterfinal since 2018, only playing two events between the end of 2019 and May 2022. Lisicki looked great in her Bad Homburg wins over Tamara Korpatsch and Greet Minnen, doing good on her wildcard. Garcia has enjoyed some grass success in the past, winning WTA titles in Mallorca and Nottingham on the surface, but certainly is not unbeatable. In her first two rounds, the Frenchwoman came back from a set down to beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich and defeated Kamila Rakhimova in straight sets. It will be a tight match but I’m afraid Lisicki’s run will end here.
Prediction: Garcia in 3
Simona Halep vs Amanda Anisimova
Head-to-head: Halep 1-1 Anisimova
2019 Wimbledon champion Simona Halep will finally get to play at the All England Cup for the first time in three years since she lifted the Venus Rosewater Dish and she has looked ready in the warm-ups. Halep made the Birmingham semifinals before losing to the seemingly unstoppable Beatriz Haddad Maia and here in Bad Homburg, the Romanian has found success as well. Halep had to battle in her first round, beating Katerina Siniakova 6-4 in the third before she dropped just three games to Tamara Zidansek. Anisimova has had a similar road here, going all the way to the third-set tiebreak with Alison Van Uytvanck before beating Ann Li 6-0 6-2. Anisimova has now defended her Bad Homburg quarterfinal but it will take something truly special from the 20-year-old to go further.
