It would take a career best performance for Corentin Moutet to upset Rafael Nadal in the second round of the French Open, veteran Frenchman Richard Gasquet also plays on day four as we have predictions for every match as the second round gets underway at Roland Garros.
Rafael Nadal vs Corentin Moutet
Damian Kust: We’ll see how much of a problem Rafael Nadal’s foot becomes later in the week, but so far he’s had a very clean win against Jordan Thompson. Corentin Moutet also shouldn’t grant him any problems. The Frenchman has a lot of creativity and mixes up play well, but ultimately doesn’t have the weapons to trouble Nadal in his kingdom. Yesh Ginsburg; Nadal looked locked-in to start his first match, and there’s no reason to think that will change at all. Nadal in 3
Jaume Munar vs Diego Schwartzman
Damian: One thing is certain, there will be plenty of lengthy baseline exchanges in this one. Jaume Munar hasn’t taken a set off Diego Schwartzman on clay yet, but lost to him in a couple of tie-breakers at Buenos Aires this year. There’s a chance for an upset here as the Spaniard has been great recently, while Schwartzman has the tendency to mix in weaker performances. Not clear at all. Schwartzman in 5
Yesh: Munar and Schwartzman are similar, but the Argentine is more aggressive and more powerful. That’s a winning combination. Schwartzman in 3
Brandon Nakashima vs Tallon Griekspoor
Damian: Tallon Griekspoor defeated last year’s quarterfinalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and now has a pretty favorable draw in return. The Dutchman hasn’t been playing as well as when he broke the record for most Challenger titles in a season last year, but his weapons are huge and should help him fend off Brandon Nakashima, whose clay game is a little bit wobbly. Yesh: Nakashima is rising his way through the ranks of the game. Clay isn’t his favorite, but he’s been gifted a great draw here and will take full advantage. Nakashima in 4
Richard Gasquet vs Sebastian Korda
Damian: Richard Gasquet caught some nice rhythm in Geneva last week and was pretty phenomenal against Lloyd Harris in the first round here. The conditions in Paris suit him much better than they do Sebastian Korda, and the crowd support should help him produce another vintage display. Gasquet in 4
Yesh: Gasquet is nearing the end of the line, and his fitness is always in question, but he looked better than he has in a long while in his opening round. Gasquet in 3
