WTA Madrid Day 2 Predictions Including Monica Puig vs Danielle Collins

First round action continues from WTA Madrid on day 2 with notable players like Petra Kvitova and Monica Puig in action. We have predictions for matches featuring Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys as well.

Jil Teichmann vs Petra Kvitova

This pair split two meetings last year, Kvitova has lost three straight matches and has been poor this season. The former Madrid champion holds out hope she can turn her form around in Spain this week. Teichmann reached a career high ranking of #31 this season, she’s just 6-9 on the year though, the Swiss player is capable on clay but has less upside than Kvitova. The Czech is vulnerable but surely would be favored here. Kvitova in 2

Monica Puig vs Danielle Collins

Puig leads the h2h 2-1 and will have hope against the top 10 Collins, a significant layoff from shoulder surgery has kept Puig out of the game for two years. The former top 30 player is making her comeback on the clay in Madrid, with little to be expected from her this week or for quite some time given the long layoff and the nature of the injury. Collins reached the quarterfinals in Miami and has played a limit season. Collins has a good clay court record and should get off to a good start. Collins in 2

Linda Fruhvirtova vs Kaia Kanepi

The young Czech is slowly building her way onto the WTA Tour, Kanepi came through qualifying and brings tons of experience to this match against the youngster. Kanepi has had a good season and should be able to take Fruhvirtova to school this match, round 2 and beyond looks achievable for Kanepi. Kanepi in 2

Marta Kostyuk vs Clara Tauson

Kostyuk is just 5-8 on the season and isn’t overly impressive on clay, Tauson is 6-6 and her clay court record also leaves something to be desired. This is a coin flip match without a clear favorite, Tauson has a bit more talent and probably figures it out. Tauson in 3
