Day 1 of the WTA Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose, California, promises us some great tennis. This event starts the hard court season leading up to the US Open, so these women will want to find their best form as early as possible. As always, we’re here to share our thoughts on the matches. We also have the rest of the Day 1 matches in a separate article. Who do you think will win on Monday?
WTA San Jose Day 1 Predictions
Magda Linette vs Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove
Kerhove did well to qualify for this event, but that’s probably as far as she’ll go. Linette has found form and some consistency this year. The Pole has been playing well since the spring and has solidified her spot in the Top 50. That’s enough to win this match.
Prediction: Linette in 2
Marie Bouzkova vs Ana Konjuh
Konjuh qualified for the main draw without dropping a set, though neither opponent was particularly noteworthy. Bouzkova, meanwhile, really struggled during both the clay and grass court seasons. She’ll be happy to get back on hard courts, though it may take a bit to find confidence and form again. If she’s off, Konjuh can take advantage. Bouzkova is the better player, though, so I’ll trust her to get the win.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 3
Anastasija Sevastova vs Petra Martic
Martic is a Grand Slam quarterfinalist, but that’s easy to forget. She has reached the second week of every Major, but does so under the radar. Sevastova, meanwhile, seems well-represented in big matches, even though her record and results don’t warrant it. First impressions of both players for fans might be the opposite of reality here. Martic is the better player in this match.
Prediction: Martic in 3
