Lucia Bronzetti vs Tess Sugnaux
Head-to-head: Bronzetti 2-0 Sugnaux
Tess Sugnaux is one of two Swiss wild card entrants at this year’s Lausanne Ladies Open. But at times, you would question the meritocracy of some of these wild cards. Ranked 608th in the rankings, Sugnaux features heavily at ITF level where she has failed to win a main draw match in precisely three months. The same cannot be said of Lucia Bronzetti who is a vastly superior player and brings a commendable run of results on clay in recent weeks.

Camila Giorgi vs Ulrikke Eikeri
Head-to-head: first meeting
Camila Giorgi was largely uninspiring during the clay swing. She went 2-3 across three tournaments but found her groove on the grass. The Italian was unplayable in Eastbourne, notching wins over Karolina Pliskova and Aryna Sabalenka en route to the semifinals. Irrespective of the surface, the Italian is a player capable of producing winners from all parts of the court. And her power-packed game can send shivers down her opponents. Ulrikke Eikeri, for her part, secured a rare main draw appearance after winning one round of qualifying. But the Norwegian is in unchartered waters having played just two tour-level matches this year. Expect Giorgi’s raw power to overwhelm the qualifier.

Jil Teichmann vs Maryna Zanevska
Head-to-head: first meeting
Jil Teichmann’s clay court campaign began in scintillating style. But things have gone rather quiet since she upended Elina Svitolina in that crazy match in Madrid. She pulled out of the French Open due to injury. And she was soundly beaten by Camila Giorgi at Wimbledon. Last week’s defeat to Elena-Gabriela Ruse in Hamburg extended her winless streak to three matches. But I expect her to return to winning ways on Tuesday. Playing on home turf, the Swiss southpaw is a natural favorite against the 193rd-ranked Maryna Zanevska.
Prediction: Teichmann in 2
Caroline Garcia vs Alexandra Dulgheru
Head-to-head: Garcia 0-1 Dulgheru
Caroline Garcia is treading the line of one of tennis’ biggest underachievers. After parting ways with her father in a coaching capacity at the start of May, she is still in search of some kind of kick start. Her season has been a shocker, to say the least. The fact that her ranking was insufficient to warrant a main draw spot in Eastbourne was a new low. Ideally, a meeting against a player ranked outside the Top 300 would be a confidence booster, but Dulgheru has fared decently on the ITF circuit in recent months. She reached the final in Saint-Gaudens ITF beating the likes of Hamburg champion Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Viktorija Golubic, and took a set off Clara Burel in the championship match. But Dulgheru has a questionable fitness record at times as evidenced in her last two defeats. Garcia might take advantage.
