WTA Eastbourne Day 1 Predictions Including Shelby Rogers vs Kiki Bertens

Shelby Rogers 2021 French Open

We have predictions for all of the WTA Eastbourne opening day matches including Shelby Rogers and Svetlana Kuznetsova’s matches. You can also review predictions for matches featuring Jelena Ostapenko and Sam Stosur as players make their final preparations for Wimbledon on the grass courts.

Shelby Rogers vs Kiki Bertens

Playing a limited schedule (her first tournament in March), the Dutch player Bertens has managed just two wins this season, though she’s found some success on grass. Rogers is a lucky loser but should be the favorite for this match despite an early exit in Berlin and a qualifying loss here. Grass is not her surface, but Bertens form implies she’s going to have a difficult time against just about any opponent right now. Rogers in 3

Harriet Dart vs Elena Rybakina

Rybakina won their only meeting, Dart won a match in Nottingham but has lost two straight matches and is here as a wild card. Dart has struggled at the WTA Tour level this year and Rybakina backed up a quarterfinal in Roland Garros with a second round showing in Berlin. The home player Dart looks set for a disappointing early round exit. Rybakina in 2

Anastasija Sevastova vs Marta Kostyuk

Sevastova split the h2h with Kostyuk 1-1 with both meetings taking place in the last year. Sevastova is a lucky loser with a good grass court record, Kostyuk is at a career high ranking and won her qualifying matches along with a win in Birmingham and a fourth round at Roland Garros. Kostyuk’s career best season looks set to continue with a round 1 win in Eastbourne, though it should be close. Kostyuk in 3

Anett Kontaveit vs Svetlana Kuznetsova

The pair have met twice on clay in Rome and split those meetings, Kontaveit was solid on clay this year and has won on grass before, Kuznetsova has been limited in terms of her schedule and has lost three straight matches since reaching the St. Petersburg semifinals in March. Kuznetsova is one of the most experienced players on tour and as a four time Wimbledon quarterfinalist she is comfortable on grass. However her best years are behind her clearly, and Kontaveit is a player still in her prime. Kontaveit in 2
