WTA action from Strasbourg begins Sunday with four main draw matches and the final round qualifiers completing. Here is your look at all of the action with just one week before the French Open.
Nao Hibino vs Magda Linette
Hibino leads the h2h 4-3, both players have been struggling, with just four WTA main draw wins between them this season (three for Hibino and just one for Linette). Linette in particular continues to carry a relatively high ranking but her tennis hasn’t been near top 100 caliber all season. Hibino will be happy to see this opponent in the first round and looks set to gain a bit of momentum ahead of the French Open. Hibino in 2
Varvara Gracheva vs Clara Burel
Gracheva reached the semis in St. Malo but it’s been a barren season otherwise in terms of wins and big results. Burel, a wild card, has been good at the ITF level, reaching a semi and two ITF finals on the season. With Gracheva struggling, Burel looks well positioned to reach the next round. Burel in 3
Kristyna Pliskova vs Alize Cornet
Cornet leads the h2h 2-0 and Pliskova has been poor this season playing a limited schedule. Cornet is at home and will be looking to make a significant run here. She should get off to a good start against the former top 40 player. Cornet in 2
Lauren Davis vs Ekaterina Alexandrova
Davis, 6-8 in 2021, has made her way to Europe finally for this tournament, having last played in Charleston. Alexandrova is a solid 13-10 on the year and has shown herself to be quite capable on clay. This looks like a mismatch, with the Russian a strong favorite. Alexandrova in 2
