ATP Lyon Open Day 4 Predictions Including Dominic Thiem vs Cameron Norrie

Dominic Thiem 2019 French Open Final

Day 4 at the ATP Lyon Open wraps up the Round of 16. We’ll set the rest of the quarterfinal matches on Thursday. Thursday holds five matches, one of which (Richard Gasquet vs Diego Schwartzman) is held over from Wednesday. Let’s look at the four new matches on Thursday. Who do you think will win?

ATP Lyon Open Day 4 Predictions

Gael Monfils vs Yoshihito Nishioka

Monfils finally snapped his eight-match losing streak in the first round here. The Frenchman was reduced to tears after his Australian Open loss, and things didn’t get better for months. He’s off the skid now, though, which is great news for him and his fans. Nishioka is a good matchup for the Frenchman as well, so I expect him to advance on home soil.
Prediction: Monfils in 2

Tommy Paul vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

I honestly don’t know why Tsitsipas took a wild card for this tournament. The Greek is playing great on this surface and has plenty of match time. Maybe he wanted another good run after relatively early losses in Madrid and Rome? Still, a title in Monte Carlo and a runner-up in Barcelona show that Tsitsipas is a major contender at the French Open. Tommy Paul is merely along for the ride in this match. The American can play well, but he doesn’t have the clay game to stick with the Greek.

Jannik Sinner vs Arthur Rinderknech

Rinderknech has been playing well recently, with some solid runs in Challengers and qualifying for ATP clay tournaments. He took advantage of a Lucky Loser spot here to reach the second round. That’s where it ends, though. Sinner is a beast on clay, and he’s going to blow the 25-year-old Frenchman off the court.
Prediction: Sinner in 2

Dominic Thiem vs Cameron Norrie

This should be an incredible match. Norrie has been improving on clay, and he’s leading a bit of a British resurgence on the surface. The Austrian has been in a bit of a slump and has been dealing with some issues these past few months, but he likes the clay. He’s played better since he came back, and he needs to get into form before the French Open. Norrie can beat most decent players on clay right now, but asking him to take down Thiem seems like too much. The two-time French Open runner-up should win, but this match could be close.
Prediction: Thiem in 3
